Thanks Arisen, for adding my contribution to #Nightstar2017.

I tried posting it myself several times but wouldn't actually appear in the post. My artwork may be only decent compared to some artists out there, but I figured 'only decent' was perfectly fine. For me, drawing is more just a hobby I only occasionally indulge in due to time constraints, but I do enjoy it.

I posted your artwork on page 35 & the OP. =)

Sometimes it's not about how talented you are as an artist but rather your vision of the piece. One of the aspect I like about yours is it alleviates one of the Nightstar's only noteable weaknesses which is it's arms are wide. Not King Crab wide but probably something like the MadiiC but with it's arms going out sideways.

Considering PGI will give up the single Mech packs and might return to the multiple Mech-Packs idea: what about a Star League Mech Pack?

Light: Mongoose
Medium: Lynx
Heavy: Excalibur (or Cestus for Meta-lovers)
Assault: Emperor (just kidding Posted Image )

Haha you're terrible man.

- I do like the Mongoose but I think the Nexus would be a stronger choice for a 25 tonner and if you count it as an upgrade to the (horrendous) Jackrabbit it's a SL mech.
- Lynx 100% approved
- Dragon Fire? (Technically was drawn up during the SL)
- Nightstar, what thread are we in? ;)

lol aint that the truth,

Look ladys and gents.. I hate to break it to you.. But the last thing this game needs right now is more mechs added to the mix... FFS... lets get some more game play... game type... maps, environmental stuff AI? lets work on fixing the problems that exist and better the game as is.... Not sell more mechs...

Well let's break it down for you.

1. Cazidin was joking because the Nightstar would be a T1 mech easily and it's an IS mech so technically still inferior tech wise to Clan mechs.
2. Mech development does not affect maps, modes or anything else. Russ himself has stated this multiple times. Mech sales = money to develop the game

Recently we got Escort mode, revamped FW, redone Terra, etc. We're going to get the new mode that came from them rethinking Assault pretty soon and this summer we're getting new weapons and equipment up to about 3068 and the new skill tree which ppl have wanted.

So, can we stop wasting time explaining that mech packs aren't the problem please?

Was a little bored, so... how would a MWO Nightstar badge look?

Posted Image

(Yes, the source for the star is rather obvious, but I somehow like it).

Haha nice. I 100% agree with the blue and for the obviously needed star it should be something inspired by the Northstar. The star on this one sorta looks like the sun to me.

What if the Nightstar badge was based on this?

Is there a literary or other cultural reference I don't get? How is 'nightstar' a shooting star or the Northstar?
Anyway, how'd you do a shooting star badge? Keep in mind the minimalist style of the Mech badges. Two quick attempts:

Spoiler

I could make the star small to emphasize the tail, though the badge might look a bit empty then. And to be honest a shooting star is not actually what I think of when I read the name Nightstar. But then again, maybe I am missing some refernce...

I thought it was too obvious... Nope, not a sun, a star and a rather common element in military rank insignia, usually called pips. Just two examples (colonels from two different militaries)

Ehh no reference in particular. I just thought a shooting star was cool.

I do like the military reference though.

Well, currently I am just brainstorming and doodling a little anyway. I was also thinking about a starry night with one star highlighted, or a starry night with a shooting star indeed. Actually the only thing I am quite sure of is the night blue colour.
(As we are speaking I got another idea with a shooting star; hard to describe but perhaps I'll make it work).

Seems I am better at unit insignia than at Mech bagdes... Posted Image However considering the artist who does PGI's Mech badges is excellent (isn't it hayden?), we don't need to worry. It will be good either way. Posted Image

Yeah the blue is for sure the right color. Something cool with stars would likely be good but I do like your shooting star ideas.

The Nightstar is a Star League 'Mech...why not do the obvious and place the Cameron Star on the badge?

There are a LOT of Star league Mechs...this one isn't even a particularly notable one... the Cameron star would make a lot more sense on an actual Flagship SLDF design

Pretty much this. The Nightstar was basic basically a flash in the pan for the SLDF. It's much more notable after reentering production in 3057

You mean something like the Marauder? Or Warhammer? Or the Atlas? Which either already have badges or predate the 'Mech-based badges?

It's a built-in play on the name, and the Night Star was piloted by commanders. It's about as fitting as it gets. You put any sort of star on the badge and people are going to think about it regardless.

actually, the most fitting remaining candidate is the Atlas II, which will be a possibility with the new tech, as ALL Atlas II went into the Exodus, it was the ultimate version of Kerensky's personal design, and driven by Nicholas Kerensky, himself.

Yeah but I don't think the Atlas II merits a new chassis/mech pack. Is there another mech that would fit to be the "poster" mech of the SLDF?
