Step by step explain "EXACTLY" what happens when you go to power up for a boot..

Far from an expert here, but if it boots from USB, does that not indicate that there's something wrong with the boot drive and/or cables to it?

Can you boot from CD? (altering the boot order of course)

Check the bios to see what the boot device priority is set to. Also some details of the specs would be nice. What do you mean by fresh? Recently built or recently bought?

Boot device is an old *** xbox 360 hard drive, that probably it. So yeah I think its the boot drive that is messed up.

Other then the 2000 clock cosair dd3 memory everything else is pretty standard on the motherboard. So I think its either the the memory or the Hard drive.

I just installed that board today, along with everything mentioned in another build thread, and it took a few tries until I got my 2 HDDs in the proper SATA2 slots and the SSD in the proper SATA3 slot, had to fiddle with the boot priority until I got it to boot from the CD and installed the OS on the SSD.

Pain in the arse and back for sure.

I have a asrock motherboard with the Q9450 intel. I had to troubleshoot the computer last week when the windows xp would reboot over and over again just after the bios screen. So I had to buy an OEM copy of XP SP3 off ebay to reinstall windows on another drive. If it is doing that then it is probably time to reinstall windows.

But first check to see if you can see your HD and memory chip on your bios.

If it was your memory chip gone bad then it would probably not let your display show up on the monitor.

Sounds like it. The machine boots from the USB because it works. The HDD probably went kaput. Do you have another HDD you can use? Even an external would work temporarily.

hmm reinstalled windows,

heres how it went...

booted from usb, went thru the steps

booted from hard drive, hard drive completed the steps

now..

its boots to bios, then resets. It could be the HD but then again, it booted last time correctly to complete the windows install so I am not sure thats it.

It could simply mean it is on its last legs.

your first problem imo is you bought an asrock board...my last board was an asrock and i had nothing but trouble with it...while they are cheap in that company's case you really do get what you paid for...which isnt much

nailed it, the problem was the IGPU mulit monitor thing, disabled that and now I boot up fine. Dont need IGPU anyway I'm using a dedicated card.

I would recommend trying to boot with one memory stick at a time as another test. Your description is minimal but that is a possible problem for what you described
