But what happens if you get one torso open, which will happen pretty fast. Think Atlas before the structure buffs. On of the two rifles *will* get critted in no time and is likely to explode. So 20 Damage but can this explosion trigger the other rifle to crit/explode, too?

Damage is damage
You can lose items (via Crits) from FALL damage, so I'm sure this qualifies.

Then you'll instantly lose a side the moment someone opens the armor. instakill when an oxide gets *one* shot onto your back, now that will be fun

OH NO! Clans are getting a good assault mech! (The Exe is good, its just not an assault mech, its an overweight heavy). NOT ALLOWED! Clans must be all heavies all the time.
1) It was obvious thats where the 3rd and 4th B points where going to be, the way the model progressed where else where they going to go? Why are people going nuts now over what we (well I anyway) have pretty much known for months?
2) Why was no one sobbing about power creep when the Mauler obsoleted the King Crab?
3) It wont have any quirks, so the Atlas is still going to have a place - i dont know that id put my money on a Spirit Bear over an AS7-S in a brawl, because Atlas quirks mean it will be about the same agilty and much tougher, with more ppfld but less DPS.
4) Yes, its going to obsolete the Dire, at least the dakka versions of it. That was obvious from the first moment it was released, if nothing else because XL300+STD structure -> XL350+ES Structure only costs 1.5 tons and 3 slots, and gives a 16.6% speed and agility increase. Blame the skill tree nerfs. Im fine with it, because i hate driving the Dire now, and PGI are never going to give it any help, but im an assault jock who loves dakka.

You know what i meant. It carries the firepower of a fast heavy, and Assaults exist to bring firepower. The only reason the Exe isnt a steaming pile of junk is quirks, because without them its just a fat Timberwolf with a much higher opportunity cost.
The only Clan assaults that actually carry assault level firepower is the Whale and HGN-IIC, and the Whale is too slow, while the HGN has got bad hardpoints.
I love assault mechs, but ALL of my favourite ones are IS (Banshee, Mauler, Battlemaster). Its telling that in CW as IS i bring 1-2 assaults every time and as Clans if i ever bring one i regret it. Its about time Clan had a good assault that actually brings assault firepower.

What do you mean by "assault level firepower"? How much of firepower?

I am not against this mech or its introduction but, my Warhawk with a 90 point alpha begs to differ on the assault firepower part.

Well I'm only able to provide 82... maybe 2-3 times depends on map and the combat before going berserk

Maybe bottom.
The Quad UAC10 will be nasty.
How about Quad Gauss, easily doable with plenty of ammo.

I'd say Mauler already dethroned Dire.

Well in highlanders case small max engine limit and very limited amount of hardpoints. (it's stupid hard to be able to use all the tonnage with good weapons that sync well together)
with Orion mostly limited hardpoints.
All of the kodiak variants have way more hardpoints and a lot bigger max engine.

FTFY. Back to the topic, maybe the only Clan battlemech I bought, mostly for testing purposes and as a replacement to D-Wolf (more or less). Also quite likely the first Clan meta assault, as mentioned earlier, at least until we see http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Blood_Asp because major pod space, JJ and ECM

Power Creep also applicable (this much firepower moving this fast with astounding mount position)
Hitbox is the downside
It's possible, see the Banshee with PPCs. If you mount 4, 2 go high and 2 go low.
If you pad them with Lasers, 2 PPCs always stay low (while LPLs can be moved high)
I suspect that is less intended and more a lack of programming skill on PGI's part. Consider the madness of the Victor's missile hardpoints as yet another example of hardpoint fail.
As for the Kodiak, it looks like power-creep in a big way. Barring some other issues (it's hit-boxes look mediocre, but the Dire Wolf doesn't have good hitboxes, either), this will obsolete the Dire Wolf for many builds and be a horror on the battlefield.

2) Why was no one sobbing about power creep when the Mauler obsoleted the King Crab?
Mauler has inferior hitboxes to nearly all attacks except LRM's. Also, the Crab is 10 tons heavier, giving it somewhat more leeway when creating certain builds, either in ammo or backup weapons.
The Mauler is a great mech and can do certain things the King Crab cannot (5 AC5's, etc.), but I would not call it a direct upgrade, IMHO.

Inferior hitboxes? It has a quite large CT, like all assaults because its just big, but all that means is it can run an XL if it wants. KGC CT hitbox is just as big from the front, but unlike the Mauler it cant run an XL , because it cannot shield its STs from the sides. The Mauler runs 4xUAC5 with the same ammo as the Crab at the same speed but with vastly better weapon height and convergence. Only thing the Crab does arguably better is the twin Gauss builds, because ST gauss is risky, but even that is preference and i prefer the Maulers higher mounts and better convergence to the Crabs arm Gauss.
edit: i guess the Crab does have better torso twist, but thats all it has.

Honestly aside from Gauss builds, which we don't see much of right now, the Mauler obsoleted the Dire as well (at least for competitive matches).
