Just Dropped A Tier

I play bursts of mwo then go to other games then come back.
I'm actually quite skilled and get a few kills mostly every round.
Do tiers actually represent your skill?

Not really, no.
Don't worry about it, you will slowly rise the more you play just because of the way PSR is implemented in game (AKA experience bar).
While yes, its not optimal I gotta say since I came into tier 2 that it behaves more and more like a real PSR. Reason being much more experienced players -> much more precise killing -> less damage needed for kills -> -> much shorter battle times -> less damage possibile to do in losses -> less match score
While you could easily climb on losses in Tier 3 its not so much possible anymore in tier 2 because you just have no time to do all the damage if your team is the losing one.
Yesterday we had a skirmish match on frozen end in 2:50 minutes. Most even on the winning side had match scores of 100-200 except 1-2 guys. Its not uncommon even for me to do 3 kills with 180-250 damage.
You won't raise your PSR on a loss with such kill-to-damage ratios.

If you went in and did 3 solo kills and still went down then there might have been a problem.

Those that say it is an "XP bar" are the kind of guys that play in groups, piggy backing off their team vs. their own skill
the PSR is an individual Skill oriented system in a "team" game. So if you solo exclusively (like myself) you can in-fact claim a bit of skillful play style. Otherwise, you'll just get the "team only" scrubs that cant carry their own weight saying otherwise. (your dropping a tier being the proof)
and even iff you kill 3. You can AFK untill the end of match, pick off the already dmg'd mechs and get 3 kills. Kills don't mean much compared to dmg dealt, contributing to the fight does

I suck and I am tier 2
Got .85 Kill to death ratio
Before this system started I wondered if they made these different tier levels
The high tier players won’t have anyone to shoot at
Well I now know move enough under-heave players (aka targets) up and problem is solved

It is however not the case for when you win. Your matchscore maybe be abysmal, but if your team wins you get pilot skill rating up easily.
so good players with good damage and matchscores will never drop tiers or go down, even if they lose every single game.

Tiers represent your ability to generate a high match score consistently.
Not quite.
Your psr will go up in any game you win.
I am full bar t1. There are games where I make zero bar t5 level mistakes, and get 60 dmg, but my team won. My psr still increases at games end.
On the other hand, if I lose and my psr stays equal, I've probably gotten at least 450 damage and at least 25.% more than anyone else on my team.
If it increases on a lss I've probably did over 700 damage and nearly doubled the next person's score.
So psr rewards games won, and then losses where you do much better than your team.

This is a myth, and one that you could easily check for yourself.
It will not go up if you don't get higher than 250 (I think that's it? Maybe it's 150) match score on a win.

1) Me too, like that some how matters.
2) If all you do is 60 damage, and nothing else (no assists, no spotting, etc) you PSR will not go up on a win. That would give you a 30 match score.

If it stays equal on a loss, then once again you've gotten 250-450 (I think that's the range) match score. It doesn't matter at all how your team mates did.
JigglyMoobs, on 15 April 2016 - 05:48 PM, said:
If it increases then you scored over 450 matchscore on a win.... and I can't remember what it has to be on a loss to go up....maybe 650?

PSR rewards high match scores, that's it.
If you always get high match scores (450+), it goes up over time regardless of if you won or lost.
If you always get low match scores (250-), it goes down over time regardless of if you won or lost.
It's literally that simple.
