Oops. Wrong game. I haven't played MWO in weeks.

Sunlight Straight Sword all the way. Sun Bros for life!
In all seriousness, everyone knows that if you are going to run dual gauss, you do it on a Blackjack. Get meta or get rekt.

....and now I hang my head in the sudden self conscious realization that I'm not contributing anything to the discussion (per the norm), . . . leaving now.

In short what was killing me have to be meta because i'm second to none. Only the op meta builds could have beaten me.
In this cases even a pack of urban Mechs with stock Ac10 that just use the unbelivable hard to master skill of focus fire could become meta.
Seriously you don't become the better mechwarrior just by diving a meta Mech i would guess they are absolutly newb coffins - duno why they made the Trials into the predecessor meta.

Often this means that when you do use meta mechs you rek face.
Like training with a heavier sword to the one you use in actual combat.
But if you want to do guid all the time, mech meta allows you to perfom to your best potential.

How can someone have 14k posts, and still not understand how to play this game?

Or, better, just tell me which of the following loadouts I am not supposed to use:
Dual AC/20 Rifleman
Dual Gauss Hunchback IIC
Quad LBX Mauler
Dual UAC10 Hellbringer
Quad SRM6 Jagermech
Dual PPC Raven 3L
None of the above Mechs have any Lasers. Can I use any of those loadouts, or are they too Crutchy?
Those are not meta. They are just boats.

I know, but when you get multiple kills and people lash-out at you for running broken builds, one must question the legitimacy of said boats... I would feel bad if my LoLOP Rifleman was, indeed, just a Crutch that carries me.

1. Must use SHS.
2. Cannot use Endo or FF.
3. Must use STD engines.
4. Must be Inner Sphere.
5. Must use a minimum of 4 completely different weapon groups. For example, LRMs and SSRMs are only counted as 1 group, just as all lasers are.
6. Tabletop stock builds preferred.
7. Cannot equip any modules.
8. Generally shouldn't carry maximum armor on any body part except for the head. This means stripping leg armor on lights and torso armor on everything, because that's the Tabletop True Lore way.
Anything that deviates from this list are meta tryhard crutches used by exploitative baddies, clearly.
You forgot the part about driving with a joystick and HOTAS.

That guy : Why can't I run pun pun?
DM : Because it breaks the game.
That guy : But it's totally legal! Check the rules!
DM : That's not the point, it breaks the game, you literally have a character that can do anything and everything with infinite stats.
That guy : Fine! So what other "broken builds" am i not allowed to use?
DM : If you have to ask, you are missing the point...
For those not familiar with it, "pun pun" is a character build using rules from multiple D&D books to basically create a character with infinite stats. It's like playing Fallout 4 and giving yourself god mode and maxed stats. D&D (and other tabletop games, including Battletech) for having players known as "that guy". "That guy" will, for example, spend countless hours arguing with the DM on why he should be allowed to play pun pun, get infinite money, automatically win whatever game he is playing at the time, spend an entire battletech match just running away to try and bore his opponent in quitting, etc. Most people at a local games store won't play with them for a reason because unlike most people, they are not there to play the game, chill and have fun...they are there to try and break the game in as many ways as possible and have fun at other people's expense.
And like the example above, a great way to set off red flags is to ask questions like "What else am i not allowed to use?".

OMG.... If I print this out, will you autograph it for me? Seriously, this is what I failed to express when I said things were against the "spirit" of the game.....

Haha, meta is just a state of change, I'm not sure why people use that word for the best builds and I'm even more perplexed at how everytime you kill someone you must be "meta". LOL
The metagame is the game within the game. The game is ostensibly about shooting each other with mechs, but there is the metagame that is about minmaxing based on the current set of rules. That's why people refer to it as meta - it's playing the metagame.

That's why there has to be a very strong effort at balance. Because 'spirit' pales in comparison to 'dominant strategy.'
When you balance a game, you are really doing it to protect against those who would exploit any advantage to the detriment of the game. In the multiplayer FPS scene, that accounts for a pretty large percentage of players, who are only there to 'win'.
