grp =/= unit. is that sooo hard to understand?

And no its not, unit up or UNINTSALL.

its simply group up or accept that you have a disadvantage.
Since over a decade people manage to get into dungeon groups witha healer and a tank in various MMO's. For some reason MWO, doesn't even requires healers and tanks and people still deny the will to group up.

That full or nothign mentality of players like you is one of the issues many pilots have.

Normally I'm very white knight about things and happy to work with partials and workable situations and work arounds, etc. This is one sore spot that just baffles me why they would push so hard against a decent portion of their player base. Besides, I personally wouldn't ever go that far, just taking in the tone of your statement, that's how it's meaning came off.

I totally get group =/= unit. But what players like you don't get is even grouping in FW was purposely stacked against doing for many. In my case, we have 8-9 in our player group. We do group up in pug queue just fine and enjoy it. However, due to the 'everyone must be in the same faction to group' rule, grouping is out for us since everyone likes different factions. So no, group doesn't work in many cases any better than joining a unit given the very harsh desertion penalties now.

And I also play a number of MMO's.. all of which provide plenty of solo options and ways to get to end game content (hirelings, pets, etc) ;) So no, I don't buy into the just accept playing at a disadvantage part... there are plenty of ways to simply give us ways to access FW. Personally, I'd be happy just giving us access to earn the same rewards, and group up like we already do in pug without the huge penalties... OR, just break off the mode into a third flavor of the quick play side and we're good. I like the maps, I like the dropship/limited respawn flavor, I like the objectives like gates and turrets. I'd like to play them. :)

Don't give up. I was thinking the same but then I focused on only one thing (scouting) and I've fine tuned some builds specifically for scouting (Griffin 2N/3M or Oxide). Right now I am optimistic to get at least the grand prize for scouting mission.

I find very useful the LFG feature in the game.
You can:
1) form a 1 man Merc unit (free), with only yourself;
2) sign a contract with an active faction;
3) use the LFG feature in game. Usually I get invites for joining a group or see a group that want ppl to join;
4) play with them and follow the order of the group leader.
5) if you want to change faction, disband the unit (free of charge) and start again from point 1)

I've found this is the most enjoyable way to play CW for people that want to play solo, without entering in a unit.
Ideally in the group there should be 5-6 people that are expert players willing to guide the newbies.
You have no change against a full 12 men unit that is doing an organized drop, but you will have higher chances to compete than dropping solo...

I'm going to post here, where it has no chance of making any difference whatsoever, that I detest the scouting challenge structure for minimum score in victories. I'm playing and winning 14 out of 18 matches, while gathering a ton of intel points, yet I have only 4 qualifying victories due to a minimum match score constraint. Yes, yes, I know I could play to the challenge, but that would be playing against the game mode itself. I find this deeply flawed. I am CRUSHING the scouting game mode, but it doesn't reward me for it, it just wants me to srmbrawl and be happy with it. I'm not. This concludes my rant. Now someone can rant about their own thing or create a constructive post.

Yes I noted this a problem right away. If you do scout properly and win the entire team can end with under a 50 match score. It is ridiculous to me that they have a scouting game mode, but the match score is completely based on your brawling ability.

I figured that would be an issue as you are also rewarded significantly less in Quickplay if you perform a scouting roll. I guess it is difficult to measure statistically when damage is not the key factor?

The other issue I have with the challenge is the number of intel points you have to gather. I completed all but that goal within the first 60 matches. At that point I was 40 or so away from 180. So now I am doing what other people where doing in my earlier matches. Getting as many intel points as I can, and to hell with the rest of the match. I want my free mech!

Yes that is a bad way to play, but the ridiculousness of that number, and the fact that in order to get a qualifying victory match score of 80 you have to brawl, make these two goals kind of work against each other.

In the end though, if is scout mode gathering intel and escaping should guarantee a match score of 80. I had several victories where I did under 50 damage, had a 50 match score, gathered 3-5 intel. And they did not help me in the least for the 30 victory goal. They also did not help me with damage and match score goals.

Enough rambling, I think my point is that while I enjoy this game mode and believe it has potential, I also don't think PGI knows what it is supposed to be or how to manage what actions get rewarded.

Wait, the LFG actually works?
I only ask because I sat in that thing for an hour the other night and saw one other person the entire hour. And I am a solo merc, who did a 7 day contract.

If it does work that is good news, maybe I just signed the wrong 7 day contract?

But why? whats going wrong? bad build? bad gameplay? no grp? Poeple here mostly are willing to help you solving this problem.

But this is faction war, it is like that, you can still play with our friends in quickplay. Thats also nothing new, MMO'soften have some factions and you are tied to them from character creation on. If these people are all your friends or more the people you are online with then you should consider to either make a unit or at least play for the same faction. or be mercs. MWO is extremely nice to people to offer them all these possibilities where most other games clearly from the entire start force you to choose and stay with the choice. And still people in MWO complain. If you have a real playergroup, of those 8-9 man make a merc unit and paly together. Its seriously just your group gimping itself, which questions your usage of the term "group" in these regards. Also, going and playing with others isn't hurting at all, may just bear the risk of finding new gaming buddies.

Also, those MMO's allowing you to get true endgame content solo, are badly designed, they cater ego-heroes, which hardly requires or deservives the second M in its name. Like Dragons prohpet that totally made dungeons a more efficient one man grind than a well designed group experience.

However, yes public queue should be housing the Invasion mode untied from the FW. That would also help the newbies to understand how the mode works, and practice the mode outside FW.
But in th end, it won't matter if you paly this with your group outside the FW mode, the issue of non willing to lern derps vs people playing the game as intended will generate a huge gap even there.

I got good groups with Kurita and FRR. Also with Marik. There aren't always groups avaliable but some factions are better than others.

^^ This. Here we happily agree. Personally I believe you'd dry up the salty tears from we solo preference players if we simply get access to invasion mode (maps, drop decks, rewards of some sort) and not have to worry about all the Map affecting, Faction signing, Unit organizing parts. (plus it returns FW to the hands of those that want to play it and affect it, quality matches, etc) I see it as a win-win situation. :) :)

(Edit - I'm honestly a really nice guy and not as freakishly anti-social as I come across in all my yammering about this particular topic. I'm pretty okay I think :P Just have a strong view/preferences on it. )

So as the event is on the way, we start to see interesting characters farming for number of invasion drops e.g. Alex*** - "who" disconnects the moment we are deployed. Easy 100 MC, i suppose.

Actually, the system is supposed to catch them for that and not give them the scoring. Further, actions like early disconnecting are supposed to be flagged for PGI's review, should they do it repeatedly.

My marik contract expired mid-invasion match so I didnt get contract pay on the match but I switched to a CGB contract next and damn is it a LOT easier to gather intel AND get high damage / match score in clan mechs. I don't own any crows so I'm running a scat with triple streak-6 chainfired, ecm, and double SPLs. My last match I got two of the kills (both griffins) and 474 total damage. This in a mech which jumps, can hit 129kmh in bursts (cruises at 103) and does a 48 point alpha, but more importantly since I can counter ECM also, will accurately hit with 18 SRMs every six seconds. Except of course that one time lastnight when a teammate stepped his crow in front of me to try and steal a kill and I blew him away with 6 of the SRMs to his apparently weakly armored rear torso. Apparently streaks don't random location box target friends... they land like an LBX shot / normal SRM spread.

Similar Mech here, Dee Eight. SHC with 3 SRM6+A & 2 C-ER S-LAS. When I can keep my aim on, this thing's deadly. Also gives me more room for Ammo. :)

Also for scout, if the opposing team can get 8 beacons inside 40 seconds, and 10 before I even see 1, it's a fecking crock
. By which I mean that there should be some weighting applied to minimise putting beacons directly adjacent to each other quite so badly.

Well two scout victories away from a free mech... now i'm wishy washing between the myst lynx and the scat. Already have the champ scat, but a second one and I could sell one of my regular versions and build the second champ in that setup. Plus its worth more and for all this aggrevation of the event so far... I might as well get the highest value prize.

Actually, I was pondering the same thing, so lets do a little research:
Built the champions in smurfys, to see Cbills prizes and stuff, and at first glance Raven appears to be best value??.. However:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...183016c273a4720
Raven; 13,3 million??
-So that's a 5,8mln chassis, minus the XL210 that you would normally get, at 3,4mln, and minus 1,4mln in stock components we no longer get, leaves us about 1mln for the bare chassis.
-Then there's the 1,9mln for DHS and ES, we're not seeing that back when selling.
-Leaves us with new components for about 6mln, incl an XL295.

So, selling all that stuff only gives you about 7/2=3,5mln?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...39f42cd6477655f

This is close to the actual value I guess, since not much changes?
Gives you about 10mln, so selling for 5mln.

In conclusion: I don't understand sh*t from those cost breakdowns in Smurfys Posted Image
Looks like if you're selling, get the SHC, or if you want a nice shiny XL295, get the RVN.
Correct? Or am I missing something..?

Well from my perspective...I don't own any ravens or enforcers, but neither do I want to. I certainly don't want to spend time skill unlocking a new mech model during an event where I now only need the invasion goals met, and I'm going to have six (or is it seven) new kodiaks to play with in 2 weeks anyway. I also have 1 commando (champ), 3 spiders (V, champ and hero) and two cicidas (champ and 3M) already so i'm flush with scout/harassers in the small end of the tonnage scale. I also have a LOT of inner sphere mediums altogether what with 4 griffins, 3 wolverines, the 2 cicidas above, and 3 centurions. And while a 295XL might have worked in one of my existing mechs, I'm pretty meta when it comes to building engines wise... why stop at a 295 (other than mech engine rating limits) when a 300 lets you hide another heat sink in the engine space. Its not something I'd ever have chosen to purchase when fitting engines to a mech. Likewise even though the thunderbolts for example can take a 315.. I won't run more than a 300 in them because the extra 15 rating isn't worth the 3 ton weight jump.

Now on the other hand, I don't have that many clan mechs. Three kit foxes, three shadow cats (including one champ), and three hellbringers is it. They're all master unlocked and built as I want to run them. So really the shadow cat option (which is what I chose) let me sell one of my two basic cat chassis, with a set of omni-pods but no armor, not equipment other than what's fixed to the mech, got me 3.9 million, and then reconfigure the new mech chassis to duplicate the build of the one I sold, which is what I did. I could probably sell the large pulses and the ecm module for more cbills but I may have use for them sometime so I probably will just keep them until that happens. I decided the myst lynx didn't suit me that much, as I didn't see the need to again, master a new mech class right now, that's smaller/less pod space than my foxes. If I did, I'd just buy them with cbills and see no need to have a champ version currently.
