Just my opinion, but Third Person is like cheating in my eyes, you as the pilot CANNOT see from 30 meters behind and above your Mech, so why should it be allowed in game? Oh my bad, so you can see around objects and over hills? LMFAO. Like I said, faintly reminiscent of cheating in my eyes. And before you post a response saying that "Well, technology would allow you to have a hovering drone behind your Mech." I have to cry Male Bovine Feces on that one too, as I would destroy your hovering drone as soon as it came into sight.

Hope not. Glad that the majority seem to be in agreement here. Obviously it could be a matter of preference, but if they do implement it there had better not be any advantage given to players who use 3rd person - but that's been stated anyway.

In all honesty I don't understand why someone would prefer 3rd person over 1st in a game like this, but to each their own I guess.

If they could somehow do a third-person view that had absolutely no advantage whatsoever over the first-person view, then I'd tell them to put it in the game. Even if the option was there, I'd still use first-person view as that's the way the game was meant to be played.

1st person view makes me feel claustrophobic, so much so in fact, I have never played a first person game for very long. I am hoping that this one will be different enough to make me stay. Or perhaps a multi monitor view will help (which I have read somewhere they are implementing. I would say that a multi monitor view is every bit as much an advantage as third person view, and a lot harder for the general puplic to use.

Not really.. it only allows you to view a wider arc.. it still doesn't allow you to look over and around obstacles and so on.

I agree with the fist post on page three here.

It's a cheat.

3rd person view is a cheat because it allows you to see around corners and over objects without exposing yourself, and seeing around those obstacles in a way that is unrealistic.

Arguing for 3rd person view means you want to be able to take advantage of a system of information gathering in a way that should not be possible in order to get the drop on others who are not using it.

Meh.

Glad it's not in.

Now, if they are going to allow small scout mechs to shut down and pop up a small drone on a string so they can watch without being seen, fine. As long as the drone is visible, and the mech is otherwise unoperational. That could end up being part of the gameplay. Otherwise it's just unrealistic cheating.

note: unrealistic in this post has to deal with the suspension of disbelief, as obviously mechs are not real, so technically the argument of "realism" is moot right off the bat.

With this size of mechs looking around coner is not the case, the main problem of fp view is that i can not look around quick with one gesture.
Maybe as compromise they can set option that allow to link mouse not to torso turn but pilot view instead (with 360 angle of view), and torso shifts to it with max turning speed. I don't want it to say but, that is like in WoT :P

Correct me if I'm wrong, its been a long time those days so my memroy could be rusty.
I seem to remember back when I played MW3 that you could use the joystick hat to look around, if not to the rear at least to the left and right.

I for one would see that as much more feasible and useful tan the stupid 3PV.
At least that is realistic if nothing else.

From what I understand, they will support devices like TrackIR and other head trackers. Now, what kind of 360 view are thinking you'll have? Rear-view monitors should absolutely be in, but... having some magic way to spin around faster than your mech can move so you have instant battlefield awareness beyond what your mech should technically give you is cheating.

you are a mech pilot not a mech.
so all veiw should be from the pilots view.

This is a simulation, which means it should be as close to the real thing as possible.
Now please explain to me how you would go about making this 3PV you are so fond of work in real life.
Tell me how you would be able to see things from outside a car when driving it.
If you can explain that, then we can start talking 3PV in MWO, not before

Instead of worrying about this I would be worrying about if you can look around in your cockpit like in mw3 this would add more tactics if the mech has arm twist...

PS: when I first got the game mw3 I did not know about the other views till like 3 months in playing it. I think this is a blessing because now I prefer 1st person over 3rd person for all mech warrior games I have (started with MW3 and got MW4) is there downloads for MW2 somewhere?

EDIT: is there a MW3 pirates moon and MW4 mercinaries download places the prices for the disk (Pirates moon price is crazy!)

I personally don't like 3rd person much. I know quit few people that are turn off from MWO just do to the fact there is no 3rd person.

was posted by one of the devs that there is a free look and that all the screens in the cockpit show real data and most of it is not on the HUD.
