So half defend and half attack?... You're suggesting splitting forces in two?.... How often has that worked out for your pug teams? Go left you say? OK, all 4 players that still have chat/voip activated can go on ahead with that elite maneuver. This is absolutely Nascar, both lemming teams went right by default. Defend the base?..... As a light pilot I usually keep an eye on the entire battlefield and watch for other lights flanking to our base. I'll announce a 2 or 3 mech group going for base and say I need backup and I can literally count on one hand the amount of instances out of a hundred where my team responded, it just flat out doesn't happen. Camp the base? OK, so now we have 2 teams standing on opposite ends of the map.... So much fun.
So why I blame PGI? They have to know how brain dead most of their players are, so fix the damn modes. Have one side attack and one side defend. Take the base out of the corner so it has multiple angles it can be attacked from so defenders will still have to scout the enemy, give it minor defenses and let one side try to protect it for 15 minutes. No more of this ********, no damage, everyone looses, Nascar ****.
going left has worked plenty of times. the assault lance likes it since instead of leaving them behind with the usual nacsar to get picked off, the team actually heads towards them so we can hit the other side as a group while their nascaring assaults are left in the dust behind their team. just type it up, no VOIP required-most pay no attention to anything said on it anyway, though I suppose we have to assume people can read. go left- fight can start and people are happy shooting mechs. go right and sit on squares and complain there's no fighting.
if the others won't go with the "4 of us on voip" then wait for it...the 4 mechs that started left can look at their map and see everyone else went right and turn around to go right themselves. tada! I mean it doesn't take very long to see where the blob is heading after all. unless you're in a slow assault, you'll have plenty of time to get back with the team for nascar run 15,000,000
yes people refuse to use the reverse button for anything other than peek and shoot in narrow areas of the map while blocking anyone else from getting by them to get in the fight. I also know the pain of responding to caps and finding yourself alone, you can say base getting capped, need help, etc multiple times then when we lose to cap everyone asks why no one knew the base was being capped let alone actually go back themselves. lost track of how many RTB deaths I have on assault trying to stall a cap while our team wanders aimlessly somewhere or just begins to cap when our base is 75% capped.
assault/defend is something I wish they had also. random spawn base locations would be nice as well so it's not everyone go to the same spot, make scouts actually matter by needing someone to find the base first. I preferred SL turrets as tripwires for incoming base cappers vs the two previous options of nothing and too much, so you could get time to respond. not something where on some maps they can shoot at you from almost halfway across the map like the anti-ecm limitless ammo LRM turrets they hadbefore.
