Yeah cause old operating systems are always kept and cherished.

Hello windows 3, 95, 98, 98 SE, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10

Every upgrade was forced better run for your lives!!!

We always had the choice before, it was up to us to upgrade, when WE decided.

We did it when we were damn well good and ready to do it, not when Microsoft pushed it in your face and then pushed the button for you.

The forced upgrade isn't the worst part of win 10 IMO

My biggest complaint is that if it doesn't need a reboot it just downloads and installs at any time including game play which causes lag. I even have checked to notify for reboot, but that doesn't do anything for those updates that don't require it (like today). I got the taskbar notification that "Updates were installed" in the time of day that is good gaming time usually. It seems like we are going to get updates at any time rather than 3am in the morning.

However, as far as Windows 10 running, I've had it since I could first upgrade and have had zero problems except I had to update to Windows 10 nvidia graphic drivers (and I don't like Microsoft Edge browser).

A operating system should just remain as a operating system. It shouldn't be running extra stuff that uses up your systems resources. Gaming PC's will need all of it sooner or later.

Stay away from anti malware win's utility, it's malware. And you won't have any of those problems.

I have a second computer I got for my mom, it's one of those little chomeboxes but to say the least it stealth upgraded to W10 while in sleep mode without my consent.

I was not amused.

The solution is simple. Dual boot linux/ maldows. Reboot to windows for games only. They can have that data all they want. Reboot to linux for torrents, browsing, bill paying and shopping.

Why don't one of you Americans put down the Starbucks coffee and launch a class-action suit already? It's what you are good at and watching the lawyers pit-fighting is quite entertaining.

I on Win7. My windows have always been set to dl updates but not install them, just notify me if/when i want them installed. Twice last year the computer rebooted while i was gaming without my consent and against the setting used. So i had to disable it and scrub the computer of the invasive upgrade already installed which was hell and required a lot of work just like with a good virus that wont go away.

Now i click the *more info* on each updates and its insane how many of those are disguised with a wrong title to get you to install their crap so i hide them.

I just can't believe the dishonest and underhanded practice microsoft has been pulling in the last year.

Your right watching dvd's is a paid for upgrade on Windows 10. That's the tip of the ice burg. Its broken in 100 ways literally.

It wouldn't use internet explorer by default. Wouldn't use media player by default even for music and cant be used for movies at all now. It would stop playing music by itself and still does for some odd reason. Crashed my email while writing to my mom with pop ups.

I had to do a total memory wipe because the option to keep files failed when it lost its sound driver that could not be replaced...... Impossible to replace something as simple as a sound driver,(why did the sound driver vanish at all?) then fails on a OS reinstall. This was done to push its new forced program for cloud storage....

Like I said before I could fill the next two pages with the problems its caused me.

I need to remind myself not to vent like this and just let it happen. Posted Image I may as well laugh about it because I am not letting something like this make me cry. Posted Image

Oh and I don't have a command place to type in things like dxdiag or anything like that. I never used it much anyway but this OS doesn't have one I can find. Windows 7 used the search spot. This one doesn't have that for some reason

On the bright side I can still find the programs under the "ALL APPS" Which includes a lot of garbage and tries pushing me into the APP store when I am just looking for a program on my own computer...
like if I want to watch a movie or something..

At this point, I don't care if Windows 10 is the greatest version ever and will even polish my shoes and wash my car for me - they have no right to FORCE an upgrade, particularly when they are not accountable for what they break in the process.

DISCLAIMER: Links are provided for the education and benefit of other MWO users; do not edit anything in your OS without understanding it first.

Aside from uninstalling update KB3035583, you can also turn off the settings that allow the OS to decide to upgrade to the next version of Windows (even if you don’t want it.)

https://support.micr...n-us/kb/3080351

And for more info about running the group policy editor to shut down the ability for the OS to auto-grade itself.

http://www.sevenforu...ditor-open.html

1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter. NOTE: This file is located at C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc.
2. If prompted by UAC, click on Yes.
3. You can now set and manage the Local Group Policies on your computer to how you want them.

That being said, we all know full well Microsoft can most likely find a way to force the upgrade on everyone if they want to. I suspect at this point it's more a matter of the legal consequences of doing so (such as having lots of huge companies sue them for zillion dollars) vs. anything else. But the average consumer, well... enjoy your spy-ware infested "secure" Windows 10... ugh...

I would if I could afford one to fight Micro$oft's 100 lawyer kill-shot swat team.

Also starbucks sucks! lol

Volthorne: Your fight-picking post wasn't helpful at all - glad this forum has a report feature.

On topic: If anyone wants to read more about the sneaky attempts to get everyone to upgrade to Windows 10, you can look it up on CNET:

http://www.cnet.com/...e-sneaky-pushy/

The more somebody tries to deceive you into a product, the less people are going to trust it. That's common sense - but I guess once you're a monopoly, that really doesn't matter anymore.

If anything, D came to ask permission to let people know about this issue for a bit before being moved back to the appropriate sub-forum. Any further reports on such shall be ignored for the reminder of the weekdays.

Public service announcement, so that you can avoid PC Brick syndrome..

I thought it was important enough to be in General Disc, because clearly we are all running windows, some of us have taken the plunge, some not.

I asked Derek if he could leave it here so people could see it, he agreed, because it is important.

If its on Off-Topic, nobody would see it, and every PC that can be saved and not turned into a brick. is a victory, and one less headache for somebody.

you know awhile back i looked up how to get rid of gwx on my 8.1 install, and i had manually uninstalled that upgrade. some months later i wanted to try winx on an old rig. ms doesn't have an iso like they used to have for older oses, instead there is an application to download it and make a self boot disc/flash drive. i used this thing and guess what, it reinstalled gwx on the machine that i didnt even want to upgrade. sneaky sneaky sneaky.

i think im done with ms. im not going to jump to linux, but im not giving ms any more money ever again. reactos just hit 0.4, and when it hits beta im gonna start using it.

I like my Windows 7; I don't wanna upgrade.

...Shoot, I liked XP and didn't want to upgrade to Vista either. Stupid Microsoft.

What. WHAT. You cannot be serious. This topic is in NO way, shape or form related to MechWarrior, and does not belong in the General Discussion boards. End of story. That Mister D does it on a nearly monthly basis is also outlandish - the fact that you yourself probably get bombarded with reports whenever a new one pops up should be indicative in and of itself that this is both ridiculous and not to be humored.

Humor me this; You report this thread, but yet you get reported for breaking the CoC, no? On top of all of this, you were the only report to have come in so far about this. If people want to talk about this for a bit, then let them, because it's going to get moved anyways. I get more reports about FW being in the wrong forums than this type of stuff.
