Strategy For Countering The Kodiak

Engaging them last night was interesting in the Atlas. They don't seem -quite- as robust as an Atlas one on one, but they also have a lot of firepower. Getting the drop on them is pretty critical honestly from what I'm seeing so far. It'll be interesting to see what happens as people get a handle on them, but they seem pretty vulnerable from long range fire, LRMs, and tight spread srms because of the large CT.

My best response has been to just my BlackJack with 4xMDL and 2xMDPLS and stay near my own Kodiaks. Then focus enemy Kodiaks down in their CT. If you find one by your self though and it's looking your way, god save you. I've died an all lights and Medium mechs without even being cored first in almost instant deaths when it fires on me. Never been so afraid of an alpha from an assault except this one.

2. Be in an Atlas. It's still tankier, and has comparable firepower.
3. Aim for it's huge barn door. Seriously it's CT is massive and a huge disadvantage.
4. Same strategy to kill any mech. Don't 1v1 it. Don't stand and bang with it if that isn't what your mech is built for.
5. It has lots of firepower but if its wub based they will spent half the match powered down. "omg 8 lasers *beeeeoooo* ****".

No, I do not fear the charging Kodiak. I fear the patient Kodiak. If you cannot get him to charge, you must go to him, but open ground will get you killed. Use cover to approach and goad him into engaging your 'little' mech. Pop out of close cover, alpha, then hide again. If he ignores you, take his rear CT. If he focuses you, break line of sight. Soon his blind rage will give you the upper hand. This is how 50-70 tonners kill 100 tonners. And as a bonus, you'll get into the queue faster.

There might be something wrong with their head hitbox. I keep nailing the mouth on the kodiak (cockpit), and they just keep poppin.

I know perish the thought!
(I'm tryin other mechs against the mighty Kodiak tonight. I started with the AWS...which I found to be completely ineffective..but that's to be expected..it's a trash mech lol... took my 1G BLR out and been havin a blast brawling with Kodiaks, ambushing them, using Radar Derp, and Seismic to my advantage etc lol The BLR seems to match up pretty well against them at least my STD engine BLRS do. after payday I will probably buy the Archer, and Mauler and experiment with those... 13 days away lol)
Assault to Assault, other than the AWS, and Victor the IS assault mechs I own (AWS, AS7, Victor, BLR) seem to match up well against it. Which tells me it's a pretty well balanced mech.
I am starting to suspect the Kodiak is more Heavy Murderer than anything. Which is probably where all the QQN is coming from are either horribad Atlas guys that think LRMs should be on an Atlas, or Heavy Mech pilots.

In one of my matches on crimson strait, alpha and beta lances decided to chase a Spirit Bear and Cicada literally around the entire mountain. Us 4 Kodiaks in charlie were left behind to fight the other 10 enemies.
The entire team saw the collection of doritos right near us, and I called it out...but they decided to chase squirrels anyway.
In general today has not been a good day for quick play.
I said it in another thread but the Kodiak drummed up a new load of stupid from Steam. Founders were bad but not this bad. I was in a game last night where I shouted 4 times, while simultaneously tabbing all of the mechs, that we had a Kodiak lance behind us. Nobody listened and we wiped. I've seen game after game of absolute full ****** idiocy and I can't explain why. It wasn't this bad when the Warhammer was released. I guess that Steam is full of Clan kiddies that don't know anything.
As to the topic, the two strategies of killing the Kodiak are as follows:
1- bring teammates and whack them at 500m or beyond
2- drive an Atlas and laugh when you get in close
Quite frankly, the best thing to do is to take a break for another week or so and let the polish wear off. At that point, you won't have matches made up of two full lances of Kodiaks per team.

Along with twisting (and nearly turning) just as fast as Medium Mechs, but carrying twice the firepower
That's something to be cautious about (some variants more than others)
As fast as clan medium mechs without quirks and a low engine cap.
Let us not forget the context of your comparison.
By the same token, how does the KDK compare to a BK with an XL350 for torso twist mcgral?
EDIT: According to smurfy, a BK with XL350 twists at 53 deg/sec, a KDK with XL400 twists at 45 deg/sec

Running Raven's grandfather says never shoot bear in face.
You have bad day.
But kill bear from afar with many many arrows.
Skin bear, make rug and snuggle by warm fire in tepee.
Unless you have central air and heat.
Then invite warriors over for jello shots and o'dourves admire bear on floor of tepee.
Heap big fun.

You're looking at the wrong numbers then. Pitch is vertical, Yaw is horizontal
Kodiak with a 375 twists at 75 Deg/s, times 1.4 (35+5) for 105 Deg/s
BK has between 10 and 25% quirks, plus 5, and a 350 twists at 93 Deg/s
So, 102.3 and 120 Deg/s
Now, the Timby (or Loki or EbJag or anything at 87 Kph without quirks) twists at 105 Deg/s, for reference.

Vote Conquest, Engage the lights early before bears make it to the fight and dance with them unhindered by opposing lights afterwards.

Will try other Mechs when I have time... Warhammer could probably be good at mid-long range.
Cicada 3M also worked good, classic hulldown harrasing from the sides and behind. Stay out of reach of course

In short: Fight it like you fight an assault Mech. (Many of those are pretty fast these days)
