People do not play faction warfare, because it is neither fun, nor engaging, nor rewarding.
FW needs massive changes to the gamemode itself (objectives, rewards, matchmaking, etc...) and the maps need to be completely redone. Because right now, the combination of bland gamemodes (counterattack has to be the most unimaginative gamemode of any game I ever played since Quake 1 deathmatch) with terrible maps makes sure, that FW is not good fun.
Lets face realitiy here, people do not play FW because it is bad.

i think the biggest issue in fw right now (other than kodiak shifting everyone to clan, but thats temporary) is the dispairity between people wanting to defend vs people who want to attack. until this is roughly 1:1 games will be hard to find and wait times abysmal. this applies to both units and pugs. units have a lot of reasons to attack, but little to defend, unless its one of their planets that is currently paying out that is being attacked. i kind of think units should get mc pay for defending their faction's planets. pugs also should get bonuses for going attack as well, probibly cbills or lp/rp.

That is the singel scariest suggestion that has ever been made here.... It is difficult enough to get a few clueless players to coordinate enough to actually look int roughly the same direction 4 times in a row and there is always that one specialist who solorambos himself to death 4 times in a row before you have finished grouping up the rest for their second push... imagine what that would be like if every single QP solorambo were forced to play FW... ugg. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
There are of course many who play good in QP... but playing solo QP is sometimes really, really facepalmingly bad and makes me happy that it is only one mech I have to wait out before the next lottery can start.

yea well, I wish matchmaker would stop putting me on teams with newbies (or just terrible players) boating MGs on Assaults mechs, or having no weapons other than LRMs. We can't always have what we want.

No good idea, the game would be dead rather quickly. Better to ask why people don't play FW.
For it to be the main game mode it would need to be drastically improved in design, rewards and sustainability.

Therefore eliminate the popular mode and keep the mode that most players do not like or want to play. That makes perfect sense.
