I just think it's silly to be penalized for something I did a week/month/year ago -- especially if it was accidental and all because I was a victim of a dragnet instigated by people crying about real griefers.

The breakdown of the current penalty levels follow the same structure as the existing Disconnect Penalty system:


• First Penalty: 10 second delay for next matchmaking search.
• Second Penalty: 2 minute delay for next matchmaking search.
• Third Penalty: 5 minute delay for next matchmaking search.
• Fourth Penalty: 10 minute delay for next matchmaking search.
• Fifth Penalty: 20 minute delay for next matchmaking search.
Each subsequent penalty beyond the Fifth will also enforce a 20 minute penalty.


Penalty levels reset every 4 hours.


and PS, returning the fire doesn't HELP anything all you did now was make YOUR mech as well as THIER's one alpha less tougher.

I'm always going to return fire. they hit me, I hit back. Same goes with kill thieves, I'll take the penalty proudly because they deserve it!

It would be weird if you amounted a big penalty and left for a long time. Almost as if you did it on purpose when you were pissed off at the game.... Well, enjoy your stupid small waiting period times.

It's trivial if you know you're going to be penalized. Otherwise, it's usually too late.

How do you possibly get locked out for hours? I've never seen more than 5 minutes, not only for myself but any time I've been running in a group or part of a group. How is it possible that you are getting a penalty of a few hours? Unless you are exaggerating to make a point in which I would recommend sticking to facts as it lessens your credibility. If you really have a waiting period of a few hours I would recommend a screenshot to take you seriously.

Last time I got one of these the wait was almost non existing, also accidental DW full alpha on locust that tried to get between me and my target, guessing he wanted kill.

I did a quick look through the replies, and may have missed it, but I didn't see anyone pick up on that he had a few minutes penalty remaining after coming back later in the day, and I presume assuming that the lock out was for the entire time.

Wouldn't the few minutes penalty have simply applied upon his return and it was no more than that the whole time?

I've had two TK's that I remember, and I'm not sure I could have done much about either of them. One was a near-dead light that zipped across my line of fire as I was putting a desperation alpha into an assault mech and ate most of it. The other was a Timber Wolf apparently without rear armor that walked into the face of an Atlas I was putting a dual-gauss shot into with Advanced Zoom on. Maybe that one I could have done more for, but I honestly didn't see him until I was letting go of the shot. Both times I apologized profusely and then spent a couple extra minutes poking around in the mechlab while I waited for the penalty timer to wear off.

Out of curiosity, what do you consider kill thievery?

Do you mean when another mech jumps in front you to finish off a mech that you were soloing?

Yes, I don't attack if someone is co attacking. But sometimes during events, a pilots JJ in front just as I'm about to finish off someone. usually it's a light mech. I only attack if it's blatantly stolen. It doesn't happen as often now. most of the time I like to leg them so they are basically out of the fight.

I'd definitely say pilot error here. I have only gotten 3 TK's since they added the penalties.. Two were in FW (Unit mate stepped in front of my Marauder.. or my Atlas.. was one of those 2) and Alpha'd her in the back, complete accident, she crossed in front of me just as I fired.

The second was last week or the week before, were running objectives, twisted to target the enemy and fired an alpha at the mech I saw, turned out to be a friendly with a turret behind him, the red crosshair had been perfectly aligned with him making him "Seem" to be an enemy, didn't notice until just as I hit the trigger and saw the pilot name.

Third was in a scouting match, we were all chewed up, a teammate crossed in front of me, he was apparently cored out as my small laser one shot him thru the back.

Each of those times the penalty for the TK was minor.. a few minutes at worst. If you are being penalized an hour or more, then you really need to check your fire more often, especially if others are engaging the same target.

Honestly, it sounds like you are one of those folks who likes to fire through a melee to hit an opposing mech and doesn't care whether your team mates might be in the way or not.

It is the nature of the game that when a brawl develops, folks will swarm in to the target. Snipers have limited choices in that situation ... wait for a clear shot, reposition for a better angle, or fire into the melee and hope that your rounds hit the target rather than a team mate.

Unfortunately, the fire is not traced in a straight line from your cockpit to the viewing reticle .. it is traced from the actual weapon location and mount which means that a shot which looks clear from the cockpit can often be obstructed from the point of view of an arm location for example. Often terrain will block shots but if you have team mates either close to the target or close in front of you then your shots have a decent chance of hitting them even if it looks clear from your cockpit ... and your team mate doesn't actually have to move into your "line of fire" to be hit .. since it is your fault for misjudging your line of fire.

That said ... it happens sometimes when a team mate runs across a line of fire just as you shoot and gets hit. However, in my experience it is very infrequent (for me) and the penalty is pretty mild ... it is not hours unless you do this repeatedly.

You don't get locked out of the game for hours for an occasional TK.

Otherwise, I would not really remember a week later that some idiot ate that shot, which caused me to get pissed and decide to play something else. <shrugs>

I love how so many of you achieve this interpretation of me saying "I can't remember my last TK and do virtually no team damage". This has already been clearly established as my penalty countdown not having started until I tabbed back into the game some hours later.
