Weak sauce!

Why do you think Samsung is advertising their phones as completely waterproof?

Are people not allowed to take vacations? Just asking, because he doesn't always have to be on Twitter.

But at the time it was deemed fine as is by PGI
Since being lighter does not equal being smaller, or something was the logic employed

That logic is a real thing. I mean, look at the French AMX-50B tank, its like 60 tons, yet HUGE and with very thin armor. Then, you look at an American T32 Heavy tank, it is only like 54 tons, but its armor is very heavy and its only the size of a Pershing with 1 more road wheel added, making it a little longer in the hull. You have the American Sherman vs the German Panzer IV, both similar armor and weight, but the Sherman is 11 feet tall, while the Panzer is shorter.

Its about the design of the vehicle. Its no doubt some pretty ****** engineering if you ask me, making something huge but not making it well armored or anything...

No doubt in MWO they do need to have a weight vs size thing, not making 50tonners the size of Atlas...

If what you guys are saying about Russ not looking too good in the last few town halls is true I hope this is just a vacation or something and he's not actually ill with something serious.

Not the problem here, buddy, though a few posters might make it seem like that's the big issue. No, the problem we, or at least I have is that his Twitter seems to be the only direct method of communication with PGI regarding their plans for this game so when/if he goes on a vacation or turns off Twitter for a few weeks we get the impression that he's no longer on speaking terms with us, which, coincidentally or not, is shortly after a LOT of negative criticism from the last town hall, CW phase III, etc.

He can go on a vacation and hey, I hope he has a good time and gets to relax but we want, we need, we DEMAND someone to speak to. To tell us what PGI has planned for this game, to communicate their intent and give us details on the requirkening V:age of the spider AND the big rescale which many of us are very skeptical of.

I don't need someone to speak to, but rather someone to speak to me. Two-way communication is always nice, but it isn't necessary. What is necessary is for someone from PGI to show a little enthusiasm for their product, for its future and for its customers. While this community gets bent out of shape really easily, we are just as easily placated with a few "coming soon"s, "we are working on that", and the ultimate: "yeah we messed that up and thanks to your feed back we are fixing it".

I hope Russ is fine, and I hope he is getting energized wherever he is. But anyone looking at the forums today can plainly see the community -at least as as reflected here- needs him or someone to give us a reason to be excited about MWO. I hope his vacation, or whatever, helps get some joie de vivre and then he uses that to try and make believers of us again.

Hi, my name is Joe and I hate your guts. I am a doorstop salesman, would you take a second to peruse my wares...you dirty pleb?

This game isn't a retail release where you've already gotten the money and can tell your users to **** off for being trash. This is a f2p game that isn't hugely popular. Hows the business model look when you don't have many users and you aren't attracting much attention because of stagnant gameplay?

8v8 team deathmatch turned into 12v12 team deathmatch, eventually adding another mode of play that is......12v12 team deathmatch with respawns. Oh here's a 4v4 team deathmatch mode....after how many years?

The snail's pace at which they are going isn't going to cut it for a f2p game. There are less streamers now than a year ago, the forums and 3rd part sites have less traffic, the number of steam users is going down...... I get that PGI has to pay the bills, but where the heck is the content? The writing is on the wall.

It doesn't matter that you think the game is fine because apparently you are the vast minority. If the rest of the community thinks something is wrong, it is correct for them to hit the forums/reddit/twitter and complain about it. This game isn't going to survive on a dozen or so PGI white knights buying mech packs.

edit

pffft, there's more people streaming Diablo 2 than MWO on twitch right now.

Ye know, I think a lot of people are mistaking me when I post of late and tell people that Piranha's whole Fortress Devpublic act is, in some part, a result of their own toxic tendencies.

See, I'm all for expressing dissatisfaction with a product. It's perfectly fine to try and figure out what could be better about MWO, how you/I/we/they might go about fixing it, whether or not certain systems Piranha has implemented are doing their job, or other such discussions. I agree - the game is in somewhat sorry shape at the moment and Piranha's recent fixation with their 'World Tournament' is a serious misstep. E-sports, as a general thing, is mostly bad and this is not a good E-sports game in the first place, especially with as many of its systems being as ragged or poorly aged as they are.

What I want people to stop doing, and what has in fact partially earned the Fortress Devpublic approach, is people going "Russ is a s****ing d****ucking c****ucket who wouldn't know good f***ing game development if Bethesda went to his house and beat him to death with a steel-plated copy of Fallout 4", or "They need to f***ing fire Paul, then ship him to f***ing Guantanamo so someone can f***ing drown him in a cell somewhere without anyone caring", or...well, most anything I've ever seen Gripsvigil post.

That kind of blatantly unnecessary, clearly unhelpful, and in fact possibly actionably criminal nonsense needs. To. Stop. Yes, Piranha has dun messed up. A lot. They talked a good game in the Founder's program that they have since discovered they are categorically incapable of backing up, and that has hurt them a lot. In my eyes, however, this is old news: either you can move past it - certainly lament what can never be, but move past it - and try to work within what Piranha can actually do, or you say "Sorry, guys - this isn't what I bought into, it's not what I want to play, and it never will be. So...peace out."

You grind the same axe for three years without any changes, and all you're going to end up with is a stick. You cover an axe in stomach bile and regurgitated diarrhea for three years while grinding it, and all you're going to end up with is a stick that is also really, really nasty and that nobody wants to touch.

To get something worth owning, you need to sharpen it. Not grind it to a stub, and not spend all day and night cursing loudly at it and telling it what a horrible job it does of chopping down trees and how much you wish you owned literally any other axe made by any other toolmaker.

Expressing dissatisfaction in a civil, helpful matter is how you can help sharpen the axe. Being Gripsvigil is how you end up with an evil nasty stick nobody else will go near.

Which of the two do you want for the future of the MechWarrior franchise?

Like a lot of people I would like more communication. However considering the e-Sport comp and things in the pipeline for June. PGI might just be really busy getting everything finished... and I would rather they work on making mech re-scaling/Frozen City re-work/command wheel (if its this month)/on going e-sports thing all better/more polished/more tested and delivered on time than lots of updates.

So I'm just gonna chill out whilst PGI works on completing the patch/update for a game I like playing despite its faults.... and if Russ is having a break great, he sure sounded tired in the last couple of Town halls...

AlI can say about the vacation thing is this... If I go away from work on vacation, someone else there answers the phone, responds to emails, etc. What we're experiencing with PGI currently is akin to standing at the entrance to an empty warehouse hearing only an echo of our voices as we ask if anyone is in there.

Yeah, cuz when a vast majority of the playerbase is basically saying the same things, its a good idea to ignore them, said no dev team ever.

LOL!

No way really!?!?

Social Media IN THE SUN!??! How absurd......
Its certainly more relevant then you SOLELY commenting to take a jab at a comment that went over your head.

ITs called VACATION, when i do it the phone stays turned off because my phone is where WORK comes from. Sorry you thought i was taking a jab at Twitter but i think it will live.

and FYI its good to go outside daily WITHOUT your cell phone. Like a WALK or even a RUN try social media while running a few miles? But if you dont do those things i guess Twitter is easy all the time.

I live in a beach city in So Cal. There's no need to tell me about the outside world.

I'd be happy to send you a pic if you'd like...via social media, even.

Well he's back and seems to have raised spirits, on twitter at least. I really hope they don't do town halls now until he has a lot to share and is actually excited...given the lack of one the last month I'm guessing that's their plan.

Yay he´s back. So I think "taking a bit of time for himself and his family to load the batteries" was actually accurate.
And his team has been working on huge things.
- Finishing rescale/requirk
- Adding Com Rose (Looking forward to that)
- Championship
