They don't really do bad, even being bigger.

You have to remember that both the GHR and BLK-KNT still have extremely thin torsi.

Thats Battletech...tallest Mech is the atlas with 16m (later the Exe )...what the size of a Vendette tank?or a 100t Demolisher II tank ...size of a torsi have nothing to doing whit the weight by Mechs, which have many weapons in arms.which size have a "Charger" Mech with 90t and only five small laser?in mw/bt not have a AC 20 from manufactory XYZ the same dimension and size as a AC20 from ZWY.
Each Mech is build for his special ground config.,the Atlas for his very big weaponsystems with his Big Defiance Mech Hunter AC 20

And more important a thin waist
It doesn't help much when you get shot because the head of those mechs is perfect hit able with HSR and pinpoint weapons.
Considering typical peakabo behaviour you can even put some PPCs there (depends on terrain and clipping)

You can bring all the arguments about "logic and reasonable volumetric rescaling" but still it would not make any sense giving the FPS mechanic of this game.
this time no Sketchup but Pyramides

given their form - both pyramids should have the same volume - wich one is simpler to hit?

The Mechlab (Balance concept from the PC Singleplayergames to fight alone against a Mechcompany-BT/MW hase only Construct Rules for own New Designs) give a false Suggestion from Customization in BT/MW Universe,
It give no Standard Weapons The Mech Hunter AC20 from defiance has a other Structure, Caliber and Size as the Hunchback Mount AC20 from Tomodzuru Ind. (-only both doing the same Damage in 10 seconds)
Armorstructures (the Armor of the Marauder has a very different unique Structure from all other Mech Armors), Engines etc very different to Manufactory .
The 200 Engine from Pitban Factory have a very different Size and Dimension to a 200 Engine from another Factory and you can not take in a Jenner the 200 engine from a other Factory or Mech, the PPC from a Warhammer in his Arm ,have very different size to the PPC in the Torso from the Awesome or the PPC from a Griffin .You can not take the Parts from one Mech or Factory to to another Mech.
A Heavy Mech is not build , to have the Space to carry to many heavy bigsized Weapons, Engines like a Assault, a Light not to have the Space (empty or not …is a Small Laser in this Place with many Empty Space or all Space fill with a Large Laser)to carry the Engines and Weaponsystem like a Heavy. The Mech build around his special Weapons, Engines, and Structures.
A 55t Mech who carry Energy Weapons o his Arms, not have a Big torso like a 55t Mech, with carry LRM and Ballistic Weapons in his Torso+ammo or Jumpjets.
The LRM Launcher from the catapult is only special for this mech, and can not place to a other 65t mech with 2xLRM20...you can not put easy the Engine from a Opel Corsa to Chevy Bel Air...or Engine and Weapons from a Abrams to a Humvee

M1 Abrams
Lenght 9,83 m Wide 3,66 m Height 2,86 m Mass 61,3 t

Humvee

Lenght 4,57 m Wide 2,16 m Height 1,83 m Mass 2361 kg

the Omni Mechs ,the only Mech for easy Customization

Even with the increase in size, the Grasshopper is still a really solid mech, and is still surprisingly tanky. It's still playable. And good. No need to worry there.
