Exactly. And that's because gaming communities are completely unable to take anything in moderation.
It's never:
RUSS: "oh tick rate is 30."
COMMUNITY: "Oh okay, thanks bud, just wanted to know."
It's exactly like:
RUSS: "oh tick rate is 30."
COMMUNITY: "WTF, WHY NOT 60? OTHER GAMES HAVE WAY HIGHER RATES. NO WONDER THIS GAME IS ABSOLUTE SYHTE. I"M A WHALE. WE NEED 60. MAYBE THEN WE'D HAVE VIABLE LIGHTS. PGI KNOWS NOTHING. TOP NOTCH MY LEFT AND RIGHT BUTT CHEEKS."
And the community demands a forensic inspection on every little minor detail.
To one person, it's fine. But to 1000's, it snow balls really really fast. Once people make a big deal about it, the periphery people on the fence feel like they need to weigh in as well. And the ones that stay on the fence? They keep shut because they know better.
But the internet as a whole is like that. Just happily typing away, vomiting all their special snowflakey opinions inside every text box, and instagraming all their happy little moments, and tweeting every 5 seconds for an instant revolution over gender, animals, and politics.
So it's best if PGI doesn't feed the wolf from his hand, because some where along the line, he's going to get bit. And it's usually not even for a good reason.
Just lean over and take a look at the Star Citizen forums.
Almost every single thread has SOME ONE taking the OP out of context, feeling offended, or just downright assholey.
I made a couple threads on there, and I stopped when I started realizing how many posts are simply emotional reactions, and not discussion. I can't stand their forums. It's a really broad spectrum, but, holy cow, it's like walking into a room full of all of the people that I have encountered my life and was instantly turned off by their personalities and attitudes.
So, yea, I stay away from there. I have a ship, but no thank you.

Hey!
"Hey!"
I'm having a party this weekend!
"Nice!!! I'll be there! What time?"
Um, well, actually the reason I wanted to talk to you is because I heard that you cut lawns, and was wondering if you could come by tonight to cut it before the party starts.
".ohhhhhh................."
lol

Accurate I didn't even watch the town hall I got messaged about it from a friend. I'm like oh I heard that before and look what happened to me because of it.
No worries I only said that because snowbluff felt alone and he's not. I'm supporting and playing other games. After how I got treated here I had to become a hypocrite of my own words and vote with my wallet I'm two mechs behind now. Apparently will be a few more.
Soon™ and maybe aren't good enough for me anymore.

Its not about standing strong, its about patience. AS the old Ghost Bears say wait and see.
You start stressing over to much every other mech announcement you will end up disappointed often. Honestly the last few Clans mech I am very happy with! Assuming the Linebacker is next that is the only some what rotten apple of the bunch, but eh they all cant be winners, and there are far worse mechs to add. IMO a few months? Could be 4 after a sprint of IS mechs or could be 8 after Clan and IS sprints again.....who knows honestly but if he is this comfortable with saying that, that is a alot better then the past answers. However assume its not these next months and enjoy the new mechporn

Kodiak is good. I've been loving it. Viper looks nice, I might pick it up.

Hey Alistair, thanks for taking the notes, much appreciated. Couldn´t get myself to stay up that long. (Was at 3 am here)
Perhaps I´ll share the gift and translate your notes to German if that´s ok with you?

What's he talking about?
haha lol.
Yeah, yeah. Except you know damn well, personal feelings aside, that this is way the hell more complex than MechAssault.
You know I'm right there with the "moar sim-like" crowd, but there's a HELL of a lot of complexity in MWO that could go away.
He's not wrong. The odds of a complex, sim-like Mechwarrior game being made - one MORE simlike than MWO - are extremely close to zero. You'll see Mech Assault/Hawken style games instead. That's just how the industry is.
Nobody wants to pay for complex sim games, because they're so niche.

I don't know about this because certain games which are taken as challenging like the Dark Soul and XCom series, have a lot of following and show that they can be successful (financially). I think you just need to make a good game and people will appreciate and buy it.

I would love to see more maps and game modes, of course. A vote for next mech release (even if you are choosing between 4) would be a very, very nice addition. (Would not have guessed the viper or cyclops would be coming out.).
I ain't no white knight, but less whining and more constructive criticism would really help out our cause as clients/consumers/players. Gman129 (who's builds I generally disagree with, or think can be done better [HellB with uac20 and 4 cERMlas is godmode]) is very critical even though he writes under NGNG. And his opinion seems to be listened to. (Even if he is still a jerk and kills me most times I fight him).

I don't like the rescale because my Oxide will be less than it was, but I do like that is volumetric. Guess I'm buying a Pirates Bane soon. Clammers whine about the Oxide and get Jenner IIc but its just not good enough. I'm still in favor of removing quirks and replacing with location specific (Wahammer PPPCs quirks on arms) but for all mechs. Timberwolf quirks positive for lurms on side torsos and lasers on arms, check.

Those titles you mentioned - I'm going to focus specifically on XCOM here - are, despite being "challenging" (have you ever tried to 100% XCOM? Im-f*cking-possible, even on Normal. You literally don't have the resources to hit every alien event or shoot down every ship), based upon very, very simple mechanics. There's nothing difficult at all mechanically about XCOM. You could take it to any random person on the street and they'd probably pick up how the game works in a minute or two; they might not be good at it but they would understand it. Try that with a Mechwarrior title and you'd get maybe 1 in 10 people who could actually operate the game, and maybe 1 in 20 who would be good enough at it to not give up after a few matches, because of the mechanics at play.

Based on the meat provided at the Town Hall, I am officially revising my opinion that MWO is entering maintenance mode. It feels like they are genuinely trying to make substantive improvements.
This is really good news.
