Speaking as a medium jock, I'm slowly becoming a huge fan of the dual-PPC.

If you think of dealing out pin-point punches, in a medium 'mech specifically, stuff like dual-gauss and dual-AC/20 are out of the question. The essential comparison is with the single AC/20 which the HBK-4G rocks so well. But if you compare, 2xPPC weigh 14 tons vs. 18 tons for AC/20 with adequate (4 t) ammo, and you get twice the max range. The obvious tradeoff is the 90 m minimum range, but I'll still generally take the PPC's.

Heat is ostensibly another drawback, but a pair of PPC's is actually OK even with the ten internal "tru-dubs" of a 250+ rated engine. Any extra DHS on top of that and it gets better.

My go-to HBC-IIC-A with 2ERPPCs and 4SL. I run a 245XL (9trues), 12 externals, and 4 JJ. You can vary engine size to taste, pulling JJ or DHS for TCs.

Which is a nifty build, since that still puts the mech's speed at about typical IS medium mech level (81.0, or 5/8 by old TT BT standard), and keeps it up with Clan heavy omnimechs. Well, a 250 would match perfectly. 245 isn't much slower at all, though. not significantly, for the purpose of PUG/solo queue at any rate. It's a pretty nifty poptart. Compared to the NVA, the obvious advantage is silly-high mounts (right in line with the cockpit), ability to asymm torso mounts, great convergence even when splitting the peeps between sides, and so on. NVA seems more survivable, since the rescale, and IIRC has some manner of quirks to help with the dual-ERPPC thing. Personally, I prefer the HBK for the role. ;)

Looks like my tweaked loadout--what I find in my actual garage--sacrifices 3 JJs for a max engine (and 1 more internal HS)
