I see the point with the new map if you have double screen and it's full screen on the second one..., but it's presently useless, it's now a doom like game full of headless chicken

Just after receiving my phoenix hawk... the situation awareness is gone, game-play broken... that's bad

Totally agree with all statements saying "gawdawful."

I'll try an assault, but playing a light is FUTILE like this.

I'm not a whiner, I swear, but I have Fallout4 installed already, I'll probably have to check out for a week or two or whatever until this is patched out. I play this game to de-stress, I don't need this crap.

I wish Russ would really do the right thing. I wish he would get the balls to come into the forums, into these threads about the mini map, and simply say, "I'm sorry, I screwed up, and we should not have done this." And then make DAMN SURE THEY FIX THIS CRAP MINIMAP!!!!!

I think they want to get as many people to play 3rd person , cause they know we hate it when people play 3rd person.

They'd better have a hot fix coming out soon, because I definitely hate playing MWO right now.

It has whistles but it blows... if there was an option to include this useless minimap I might try it. Since it was forced upon me it makes everything that much more complicated.

Rollback the minimap, 5PM is not soon enough.

The minimap is so bad, I would rather not have one.

Also, this new mini map makes siesmic almost useless.

I don;t like the map either. I keep getting lost, so I have to sompletely ignore it

Someone needs to get fired over this. How do you mess up this badly with a new patch of this size? Is there no quality control?

I'll probably take some heat, but sometimes when you **** the bed, you need to get your *** whipped and get told that you **** the bed.

The mini map is absolutely terrible. Who thought that a fixed full sized mini map was a good idea? What game in the known internet universe of games has ever had that and been successful? I can't think of a single one. Because it is a terrible idea. Zoom in and out could be a good idea so people can have the zoom they want. And rotational or fixed options could be good for those crazy folks that actually like fixed.

If there was a quick switch button between the old a new styles, that might actually be useful, but as it is, it is no use at all.

Forgive me if I'm blunt. The new mini-map sucks ***. It's disorienting and zoomed out way too far. Almost useless. Please bring back the proper one immediately, or else implement a zoom-in feature on this one. Ugh.

Hate the new mini-map. I'll provide some reasons instead of just ranting:
1) The mini-map does not rotate with my mech. When I use the seismic sensor, I can't just see where the dot is in relation to me. I have to identify myself, identify the dot, identify my orientation, and then do some quick reasoning to tell where the dot is in relation to me. NOT what I want to do in the middle of a battle.

2) There is no way to tell which direction your teammates are facing. Is that enemy ECM mech sneaking up on their back, or is it going to turn the corner and get a face-full of my teammate's lasers? Am I watching my ally's back, or blocking his shot?

3) Identifying a grid square now requires me to find the row, find the column, and follow each of them until they meet without losing either of them. Again, NOT what I want to do in the middle of the battle.

4) On my screen, I don't mind the zoom level for telling where the enemy and my teammates are. However, having the icons telling me what class they are is useless, as they merge together too much to tell what they are.

5) The old map had a direction arrow for your feet. This, and the fact that it rotated with your mech torso, helped new players (like me) adjust to the two-direction thing. I'm good enough (read: not as terrible) to accommodate losing it, but the LAST thing you want to do is make your game harder for new players to pick up. FP is already a ghost town; it'll only get worse without new players.

My recommendation:
Revert to the old mini-map. Just a zoom option/change isn't enough to make me happy. Keep the new battlegrid map. The additional info is nice, and it looks a lot cleaner!

P.S.
I played an entire day before posting so I could make sure I adjusted. Please don't take this as a review without research.

Played three matches and gave up. Each time I thought I was moving toward something based on what I saw on the mini map, only to find out that I was going somewhere else. The end result was getting completely rolled by enemies behind me that the mini map made appear to be in front of me. The one time I was actually able to get into a brawl, the mini map proved useless as all the icons just merged together into an unintelligible blob. /sigh

Seriously PGI, if you are actually reading after 16 pages of critiques, I would say: GET BETA TESTERS. It's clear you don't play the game as much as your players do, which is fine since you have a job to do, but how about running changes by actual players before releasing huge changes?

Nice revolt you got on your hands, Russ.

I would add to it, but i think the 15 EFFIN pages of feedback paint a better picture. Bring back the old mini map or give the option to "toggle". It is terrible for EXACTLY.EVERY.REASON stated in this 15-page (for now--probably 30 by morning) forum post.

as has been stated for 15 pages, the new mini map sucks! Please make it so we keep the detail of the new map but make it zoom-able and so the map rotates with with you instead of having a few tiny pixels moving about the place indicating just how badly disoriented you are! Old map behavior + new map definition would be the best!
