The hotfix will have none of that.
Enjoy the new map experience for the next month or so, minimum.

It's upside down.
Very disorienting.

New default view will have cone of vision yes
also, self orienting, etc.
About the only thing he has not budged on is directional indicators for all the units on the map, which I am fine with.
I think what most people want now is a rollback to the old mini map. Russ' own tweets (still a pathetic way to interact with your customers) show that even he knows this new mini map was poorly thought out and implemented.

the rest is something one can get used to, even if kinda suboptimal.

Eventually.
Russ' tweets implied, "Eventually we'll have old functionality with the new icons." As to what "eventually" means, we only have Russ' and PGI's track record to go by.

They'll make broader fixes in Map 2.1, but that'll probably be a while. That's the "new default" he's talking about.
If it'll "probably be a while" that's not a problem for me. I've got tons of other games to play in the meantime.

Employee 2: idk... oh, wait... got an idea... lets break the minimap
E1: oh, man brilliant idea... that thing has remained untouched since the beginning
E2: you're right... so lets make it special... lets not just break it... lets FFFF******CCCC**** it... HAAARRRRDDD
E1: its gonna be grand
E2: indeed... now we need to convince the boss
E1: easy, just tell him its what is best for the game...we are PGI staff, are we not?... we know what is best

Wow. Did you actually try to play the game with the new minimap?
90% of the comments are justified in my opinion.
I have no idea how this design made it through their internal testing. You only need to play a handful of matches with the current version of the minimap to see its shortcomings despite the good intentions and additional information that is supposed to be contained in the miniscule icons.
I do think that the plan and revisions to the minimap from PGI have great intentions ... but the execution was a failure. It would only have required the feedback from 24 playtesters trying to run a few matches to identify most of the issues in the current build.
Anyway, I am glad they are looking at hotfixing a solution to the minimap ... and it has nothing to do with tears ... and everything to do with design, functionality and execution.

This is ridiculous.
All the people who actually used the minimap are getting punished.
While scrubs who don't know their left from their right are having a blast.
