What about people with 200 mechs? How about people with common shared XP chasis?
I have a proposal to set that baseline in terms of GXP.
So the amount of GXP you earned right before launch would become a baseline.
For example, let's say the weight of the current GXP general skill tree system is worth 30% XP in the new system. So, like myself, I have about 60% of the skills already mastered, so I would get 30%*60% = ~17% of the new XP earned across the board.
Basically, say the rollout is February 20th. Any mech that I owned before February 20th would automatically start off with 17% XP already leveled, based on the GXP scale. Any mech purchased after, would have to start from 0.
Now, we can apply the same concept for mech chasis XP. For example, I have about 500k saved on my EBJ-B, and I have 2 of them. In the new system, say 500k Mech XP is worth 50% of the total XP, so my EBJ-B would start off 67% mastered on both of my chasis.
However, anymore EBJ-B purchased after the 20th would also start from 0%.
(and obviously, modules and whatever is going to be refunded, so no issues there)
I figure this is a fair way because for veterans, they are definitely getting back to the same level that they had before the new skill rollout, so it's not a punishment to them. And it's not a super generous gift either because new players/mech would have to start from 0, and we ARE assuming that people will continue purchasing new mechs, so there's really no harm to be generous to old players.
The only people that would be shafted would be the people that mastered maybe all the essential general skills, and didn't bother to finish the rest of the GXP tree, which instead chose to spend any accumulated GXP as mech XP. Well, that's kinda on you to spend GXP as mech XP, so... too bad.
I know some veterans can immediately begin life with like 40-50 80% mech right off the bat, with the last 20% obviously the module integration which they either need to grind/spend cbill. This plan will not cause a panic wave across the board. And most importantly, people won't feel like they wasted their time in the past few years because they have to re-grind everything.
