Proposal For New Skill Tree Baseline

I think one of the main concern in everyone's mind right now is how much grind this is going to be.

What about people with 200 mechs? How about people with common shared XP chasis?

I have a proposal to set that baseline in terms of GXP.

So the amount of GXP you earned right before launch would become a baseline.

For example, let's say the weight of the current GXP general skill tree system is worth 30% XP in the new system. So, like myself, I have about 60% of the skills already mastered, so I would get 30%*60% = ~17% of the new XP earned across the board.

Basically, say the rollout is February 20th. Any mech that I owned before February 20th would automatically start off with 17% XP already leveled, based on the GXP scale. Any mech purchased after, would have to start from 0.

Now, we can apply the same concept for mech chasis XP. For example, I have about 500k saved on my EBJ-B, and I have 2 of them. In the new system, say 500k Mech XP is worth 50% of the total XP, so my EBJ-B would start off 67% mastered on both of my chasis.

However, anymore EBJ-B purchased after the 20th would also start from 0%.

(and obviously, modules and whatever is going to be refunded, so no issues there)

I figure this is a fair way because for veterans, they are definitely getting back to the same level that they had before the new skill rollout, so it's not a punishment to them. And it's not a super generous gift either because new players/mech would have to start from 0, and we ARE assuming that people will continue purchasing new mechs, so there's really no harm to be generous to old players.

The only people that would be shafted would be the people that mastered maybe all the essential general skills, and didn't bother to finish the rest of the GXP tree, which instead chose to spend any accumulated GXP as mech XP. Well, that's kinda on you to spend GXP as mech XP, so... too bad.

I know some veterans can immediately begin life with like 40-50 80% mech right off the bat, with the last 20% obviously the module integration which they either need to grind/spend cbill. This plan will not cause a panic wave across the board. And most importantly, people won't feel like they wasted their time in the past few years because they have to re-grind everything.

im going to have a lot of legacy gxp when this is over. cleared pilot trees and im close to having all the things mastered. still i have concerns now that there are now infinite xp sinks. we all know how 100 million cbills looks good, at least till you start buying things with it and it goes away. so this mass of legacy gxp, many of us have built up over years, will now be ephemeral and useless. frankly i see it as the annihilation of the game's only exit point.

Perhaps it was because you didn't know the Owens was named after the song Garry Owens (cf. TRO:3058), not after the athlete, rendering the point of your thread moot/off-topic. Posted Image

What??? That's not even the right name. There is no "s" in Garryowen, but totally a "s" at the end of Jesse OwenS.

And the mech is called "OwenS," not "Owen"

Besides, why would they name a runny mech after an Irish dance when they named one after another Olympic athlete?

Please quote my exact sentence from that particular thread that was remotely political. The entire thread is about how culture affects how our mechs were named, and that's totally awesome to think about. Please note the political point in that. I am waiting.

This is it. right here. Trying to circumvent word filter. That word. is pure politics. not to mention that the 1936 Olympics was ALL about Germany's leader trying to show off how powerful and good his type of government was. Do your homework amigo, it doesn't take much.

And also, why is the word for German facist during WWII censored and have the over zealous Mod redacted it? Say even if you mods are all Third Reich sympathizers, I am not making a critique on them. There is no stance and political statement about those people. I'm merely stating the event that happened that caused Jesse Owens to be immortalized as one of the battlemech. Why the hell is that not allowed?

Huh? Please tell me then how to describe 1936 Germany's political entity without using the N word. If you go back and look at the original context, like I said, I am merely using the common term that would used in any other conversation in real life to describe {Godwin's Law}'s (edit: Clearly, ruler of 1936 is censored as well. Yup, being so political here... god damn...) party at the time. I don't understand, how is that political?

So, Third Reich is not political then. Fascist is not political then. What kind of logic is that? As I said, I am not even making a judgement call. I was merely stating the fact of how EVERYONE would describe Germany's government at the time. I am not even saying "Oh the German N-party is good/bad." So please explain how I am being political.

---------------------

As for the 2nd part that you quote, first of all, that's my complaint of why the first thread got moved. But you quoted that as a proof that I was being political on my first thread??? What???

https://en.wikipedia...iki/Jesse_Owens

That wiki article must be full of politics then...

Like... what???

I don't understand peoples' problem with "regrinding."

Let's put it his way: If you think your 200 Mechs were "officially Mastered" at this time, then you are officially endorsing the old skill tree and supporting it as end-game-worthy material. You are saying "My Mechs are mastered now," meaning that you accept what we have now and believe it should be revered as something you want to maintain as done/accomplished/not to be improved upon

Oh and...

You are assuming people with 200 mechs won't buy anymore for the rest of their lives. The endorsing the old skill is only recognizing the accomplishment that was done before, not rewarding anything that comes after.

Say I have 200 mechs already, and I plan on getting 200 more in the next year. Why punish me to force me to replay those 200 when I am actually spending money to play the new 200? There's a reason why people hate backtracking in video games. And having to regrind all 200 from the past is about as backtrackish as possible.

Maybe it's not necessary DEPENDS on the conversion. But my proposal is a solid baseline without "redacting" any accomplishment from the old system.

Look, it's like inventing a new currency. Tomorrow, all USD becomes NUSD. But the government decrees, "NUSD will only trade at 60% of the original value." People will riot in the street. (Which is what most people with GXP fear; the regrind process devalue the old GXP/MechXP to a fraction of the new value. THAT is the issue. No one is saying that PGI is not going to give you your GXP/MechXP/Cbill back)

Now, countries have to do this occasionally because their economy is piss poor. But...

1: this is a video game
2: PGI is not going down the toilet... no?

With my system, it's a percentage exchange. So there's no issue with devaluation. Some people will go home a little richer, but for the most part, most people are not shafted, and continue playing happy. Happy customers = more purchasing of mech pack in the future. (theoretically, as PGI still haven't fixed Scorch, so I'm still holding out on Supernova Ultimate pack)
