Did a search and found nothing really useful.

Running Windows 10 on an ASUS gaming rig with an Nvidia 880m dedicated card. Updated to the latest drivers for that. Tried running as administrator...no luck.

When I try to open MWO from the desktop or from the game's location, I'll get an initial indication that the game is trying to open (spinning blue circle icon...for about a second), then nothing. I open my task manager, and I'll see the game there for a couple of seconds under processes, then it will disappear. Then re-appear. If I tried to restart the game I'm given the message that another instance of MWO is already running.

Anyone have a resolution for this issue?

Thanks!

Oh...I've tried to uninstall the game and used the repair tool. No luck with that, either. Game worked fine on my desktop rig with Win7. Thanks again!

How did you check those?

2010 C++ version both 32(86x) and 64bit version. (version 9.29.1974)

Download and install both Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Packages, x86 AND 64x, the links further down the page.

Directx10/11/12 are not backward compatible. XP/Vista/7/8/10 come with the base direct9c but does not have the last version of dx9c.

Make sure to do a full windows update of both critical and recommended. It may take a few reboots.

https://mwomercs.com...__fromsearch__1

Download and install both Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Packages, x86 AND 64x. Some players had to uninstall them then re-install them to successfully install them and to get MWO working.

https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=17718
Also download and install dotNet4 for both x86/x64.

On windows update, make sure ya have selected recommended downloads also.

Directx 9c, other dx versions are NOT backward compatible. OS comes with a default dx9 but not with over several years of updateds that ended June 2010. This includes both 32/64bit of the last update on dx9c. Previous version programs do not update themselves.

Do NOT download and install missing files from a 3rd party site, do it properly with the first link that directs you to the redistribution link at Microsoft.

https://www.microsof...ls.aspx?id=8109

actual download link
https://www.microsof...on.aspx?id=8109

1. The package installs/re-installs DX9 file versions for both 32bit and 64bit.
2. Installs files you may need later or for other dx9 games
3. Great way to prevent becoming infected by malware since ya not downloading "individual" files from a 3rd party site.

Save the package for later use, especially if need to reinstall due to file corruption. Once downloaded unpack it to a convenient location. Go to that folder and double click on the dxsetup.exe.

Or download Steam if you never used Steam and have it download/install MWO. The files above Steam includes them as part of the setup.

Thanks Tarl!

Installing via Steam fixed the issues. I wish the usual launch process would check this Posted Image

I had this problem in 2017 before and after the April updates. My game would not launch and I think I found a solution.

In my case, I have Comodo firewall installed and at some point in April Comodo added internet security to my system as well. Even though I had configured internet security to accept MWO it seemed to be blocking it most of the time. Oddly, after about 1 in 20 computer reboots MWO seemed to load normally and I could see the intro and the login page. That got annoying fast.

Once logged in, MWO seemed to work wonderfully (no other problems). After uninstalling internet security it seems to be working like it should. And by that I mean the last 3 times i've started MWO it loaded first time.

Please note that I have been trying all sorts of things to fix this problem. It took a long time. I tried reinstalling my graphics drivers, directX, .Net etc but that didn't work.

I found this problem was on both the steam and MWO Portal/client install. While im currently on the latter, I did at one point completely uninstall MWO and steam then reinstall them again to no avail. That’s a little over 2hrs of downloading wasted so that’s a lot of enemy mechs saved from the scrap yard. Oh well. Now i'm just ranting so i'm just going to shut up. Have fun guys.

System Specs: Intel Core i7-920, 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, MSI X58 Platinum Motherboard, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 (DirectX11.1), SATA (OS) & HDD (MWO) drives, Windows 7 Pro (64bit).

Just to follow up about the Comodo issue. Though different from the posters in this thread from last year since they appeared to have been fresh installs vs current installs vs re-installs cause current installs stopped working. But since you found this thread a year later, may as well as add to it (PGI default show oldest threads first in its search -no other search parameters available to select... That is PGI for ya... :) ). The Comodo issue had popped up its head recently, listed in the following threads and confirmed at this time it was Comodo program.

I had this issue when i was running EMET software, which is an added layer of protection.
I think w10 has this by default. So turning it off or change it to exclude MWO might help.

Yeah, mine isn't working either. At this point I've started the process of trying to uninstall COMODO, which is proving to be difficult since it won't let me.
Disabling COMODO doesn't do the trick, which means that uninstalling COMODO altogether is my last resort. If the uninstall doesn't fix MWO, then I might as well uninstall MWO too.

This forum really needs a proper tech support subforum because this subforum is titled "workarounds" when it's really filled with possible solutions rather than workarounds.

Are you running an antivirus or firewall like Comodo? Comodo just did an update that seemed to have made mechwarrior stuck while loading the same way you described. It would be in Processes, using resources but nothing would ever load. I got some help and you have to go into advanced protection > miscellaneous > exclusions link (under detect shellcode injections *)and add an exception for mwoclient.exe.

I was just running the firewall alone at the time and it still did it. But other software may have had a similar update.

This may be the case with similar antivirus/firewall, so look in advanced exclusions. Just a shot in the dark.

Is there any other solution so far?

I had uninstalled Comodo and the game started without any problem.
As soon as I installed Comodo again, it blocked MWO. No matter if all MWO executables are tagged as trusted in Comodo.

There must be some other solution than uninstalling Comodo. Did anybody contact Comodo yet?
