Small omnimechs are hard to make useful due to size limitations, so functionally it's probably going to blow.

It does look fine though, I wish the weapon mounts on the arms looked a little more cohesive. Didn't they say this mech wasn't designed by Alex but one of the new guys?

I really wish Alex gave it asymmetrical arms like it had in all of its other lore appearances, otherwise it would be perfect.

Ugh, no. I hate it when mechs have pointlessly asymmetric arms. This isn't a dragon. Those little noodly t-rex arms are not carrying an AC20. They should be the same!

Yeah. And it won't have enough free space to run 2xcERPPC like the Nova, I guess. What does it have, 9 tons of free pod space? You could run 2xcERLL, but... meh.

And let's not forget... 4 MGs. I also wonder if it can do 2 cSRM2s or 2 cSRM4s in addition to the red lasers.

I don't think it's going to be particularly good or particularly interesting in terms of possibilities. This thread is mostly about the pr0n, indeed.

Up to three possible SRM hardpoints, if you indulge in the Hero pack. Could do 2x cSRM-4 w/3t ammo (5t) with six cERSL (3t) and an extra heat sink, possibly get a fairly nifty striker/harasser. Nix the heat sink and you can upgrade to paired cSRM-6, or get a third cSRM-4 in there if you're okay with mixed arm-and-torso hardpoints for your missile firing group (and are willing to dump half the lasers). I always hate that, though.

It'll do its job well enough, if you consider its job to be "be very fast, very jumpy, and able to infuriate things it catches out of position." Which is cool, because outside the Cheetah the Clans don't really have bunk for fast skirmisher-harassers.

I feel like asymmetry gives 'mechs like the Summoner character. I really hated how it had identical arms in MW4, but it's a beauty in MWO.

I just think it's odd they went with symmetrical arms on the Viper considering the Summoner, Executioner and Kit Fox kept theirs.

I really like the looks of the Viper but then again I much prefer the general aesthetics of clan mechs over Inner Spear.

IS mechs generally look like Japanese anime style Shogun Warriors and/or Micronauts. Voltron comes to mind.

Clan mechs appeal more to my nostalgic side - reminiscent of WWII as they almost appear to have been constructed from the war machines of that era. Love the Storm Crow as it reminds me somewhat of a Junkers JU-87 'Stuka' Dive Bomber as far as almost being beautiful in its own ugliness. The Timber Wolf even more so resembles the old B-29 'Superfortress'.

The viper is modeled off of a combat helicopter for this art, I think.

I always wondered what the Timbie would look like if it was modeled after a modern aircraft like a B2 or F35. Actually... maybe if we did an F35B based Viper (the mech, not the F16), with the "hump" behind the cockpit on the fighter forming the area behind the cockipit... the landing gear lumps making the shoulder areas...
Posted ImageThe middle is the cockpit, next to that is the intake, then the landing gear, with the smaller lump being cooling intake for the IR reduction.

Alex still did the concept art for it, but this was my first mech model.

Pre-ordered the complete pack before the 'Early Adopter Rewards' had expired mostly based on how cool I thought the Viper looked. Job well done IMO.

You did a great job transferring it from pen to in game. Reminds me of the mad dog which is probably my favorite looking mech.

You work on any of the other new mechs coming up?

I'm personally excited for this, too. The limitations mean I can get creative. Right now I'm thinking of 4 erml on the torsos, 2 ersl and an a srm6 on the arms. Add a ton of ammo and that's 8.5 tons if my math is right. Seems like a fun build to run. One could always drop the asrm6 to an srm4 and add a heat sink but, nah

Im my Crystal ball I can see many 5x ERML and 5xSPL versions running around

I doubt that, this config would have no additional heatsinks. a 6erml+6spl NVA runs hot already nad has a lot more heatsinks.

so many lasers will probably wield an extremely bad dps

I have generally no troubly runnign hot builds, but the efficiency of such a build with only 10 DHS is very questionable.

I'd avoid the cSRM6 at all costs unless you can afford artemis for it. Also, even a single cSRM6+A is super wimpy, it would be better to just focus on cooling the lasers or replacing the cERSL with cSPL instead, or investing more tonnage to add a second SRM (two cSRM4s ain't too shabby).

Reason to avoid the cSRM6 is because of the spread; the 270m max range is a lie. Without artemis you won't be able to get all the missiles to land on a single component until you're 70m close to the enemy. With artemis it reaches out to ~100m, and the cSRM4 sans artemis also gets ~100m. If you mix missiles and lasers, I would probably run something like 2x cSRM4+A along with 5x cERSL, or drop the artemis for extra heatsinks.

yes and 2 srm's is already a huge tonnage consumption if you consider they will also need ammo. so theres not much left for bakcup pew pew or cooling.

But I doubt we can remove some JJ's 4 would probably be enough.

Yes, it would. with 8.5 tons of podspace, you can fit 4 on easily. shave of a half ton of armor for that 11th heat sink though ;)
