Yes ... how did Russ know that you all wanted another mech pack?

Because the Ebon will take Dual Gauss or 3 UAC5s or 2 UAC10s instead of 4 ER MLs. Can the Linebacker take Dual Gauss or any of those options?

Can't double-tap the 2 UAC 10's simultaneously (40 damage). Dual goose is a lot of weight and a massive cooldown, maxes the damage limit, and incurs the same ghost heat limit as the much lighter 4ERMLs. Hardly seems like a positive way to work around damage limits.

Are you honestly saying that 4 ER MLs is comparable to dual gauss when it comes to usable firepower? Pass the pipe.

id have to Agree with Gas Guzzler on this one, some times having Too many hardPoints isnt benificial(NVA),
but having Too Few is Just as Bad and Often Worse, ADR, SHC, WHK,

To be fair, it never hurts to have an excess of hardpoints. Don't need to fill them all, after all! But too few or too little tonnage to adequately utilize what is available are cardinal sins.

Granted. However, yes... I would imagine most would look at two equal damage outputs, and see the one with only 4 tons, 4 crits, and a 3-second cooldown required versus the one with 24 tons, 12 crits, and a 6-second cooldown. A fraction of the tonnage and crits to achieve double the output? Paints the dual-gauss as the poorer cousin, I think. I'd also argue most would feel the mediums would be easier to use in most circumstances over the gauss.

*shrug* Just saying that betting on mechs with fewer weapons to do worse with restricted damage output is perhaps a silly bet to make. If PGI achieves what the whole point of Ghost Heat 2.0 is, it really should result in a situation where you have too many hardpoints to make practical use of. We'll have to wait and see.

It comes down to 30 laser damage /= 30 PPFLD when it comes to efficacy. Especially when your lasers do their damage at 450m range, and your PPFLD is ice cold at 660m.

Too many energy hardpoints to make practical use of, yes.

But yeah, Dual Gauss is a legitimate heavy mech loadout.

4 ERMLs is what you would find on a light mech that runs 140 kph.

I just don't get why bother with this... Nonsense... Just for a Linebacker???

I mean, it's neither iconic nor very interesting. It just seems like a horribly wasted opportunity

Sorry?! What?! I can't hear you over the sound of this obnoxious milking sound.

I like the puzzle hunt - good thinking who ever came up with that.

The Mad Cat mkii or black Python sound a lot more interesting than the linebacker. Not sure that I want another 65 ton mech that, as far as I can tell, only benefit is being faster than my current Hellbringers or Jags. So unless it offers something else I'm prob gonna pass. As neither Hellbringers or Jags are particularly slow.... But who knows...

Linebacker I'd be happy.to see, mostly because I've zero interest in it. None at all.

And I'd rather not be suckered into buying more mechs for a game I'm not really playing much anymore.

I still haven't mastered my Kodiak's.

You know what I'm most curious about? I like the Linebacker... I do. Not nearly my favorite (that's the Warhawk) but in my top... I dunno, 10 maybe? Still, I'd never call it sexy. Not at all.

Didn't NGNG say we're getting a sexy mech next? Think they mean the next mech AFTER the Linebacker? Or is Alex's art THAT good?

Alex da GAWD answers that question every time we see a new mech. His powers know no limit.

The "Linebacker" profile does look like it has more potential than the base art... but it's a Linebacker.

On the other hand, the Viper was ugly as sin in the TT art, and Alex pulled that one out. Or at least I think so.

75% chance Linebacker, 25% chance Black Python.

Unless it's an IS mech like the Maelstrom (unlikely but possible)

I'd be more firmly in the Linebacker but a few minor details to the silhouette. It appears to have a dome-like canopy, and the ends of the arm pods have those odd protrusions that look more like a two finger than guns.

That said, I'd still say it favors Linebacker more.

I favor the linebacker theory. Let me grab the card...

EDIT

Linebacker is too close to the ground. It almost looks right, but it would be like giving twice the height to the Nova. They didn't do that, so I can't imagine they would do it to the linebacker.

Here is a bigger question - what's with the useless cloak and dagger? PGI hasn't made big fanfare around a mech in a long time. Even when releasing the unseen they didn't make them massive guessing games.

So... what is so special about this mech?

Is it from 3055, thereby also bringing with it more advanced technology and advancing the timeline?

Other mechs it could be:

And the list goes on.
