First, if it were used as some sort of catch up mechanic. Only kicking in when one team is a a sever kill disadvantage, and stops firing once the kill count has been evened up some. This way, the only time a team would face Long Tom is when they have a big lead.
Second, if it continues to work as it does now, but with a much longer warning period including an automatic ping on the minimap. The idea here would be that it would be easy to avoid so the real damage it does is forcing the team out of position.
Otherwise, it needs to go. It has a very negative impact on FP right now, and small tweaks aren't going to fix that.

It targets the largest group of enemies at timer end and drops there.
Easily manipulated to drop on the opponent when it's targeting your team.
But it drops quite too often. PGI is looking at a nerf.

There are if I remember correct 7 points of total control
-3 enemy controls Long Tom
-2 enemy has radar sweeps
-1 enemy see current mechs model #
0 no body gets anything
1 your team can see enemy mechs model
2 your team has radar sweeps
3 your team controls Long Tom
A win in scout mode move the number higher for your team and lower for the enemy team. Does effect match's in progress.

Normally against an un-aware pug it will wipe out at least 4 mechs every time it launches.
