On the 6S (my favourite Zeus) i have 1xGauss rifle 1xAC2 4xML 1xAMS STD320
This build is great at most ranges. With the Gauss and AC2 the shots travel at the same speed so you can use it to hit people with the Gauss and plink them with AC at 1500m. The MLs when chainfired are great against lights or anything else. With the 320 STD and Spd Twk it goes 69.8 KPH so its not slow either.
Edited to get rid of the 5S build i didnt notice that i should put only 1.

Nothing beats the 6T Brawler.
3 SRM6+A with 5 tons of ammo
4 Medium Pulse Lasers
18 Total Double Heat Sinks
XL380 Engine for a top speed of 76.9, 82.7 with speed tweak.
Too much laser vomit today, gotta give the new players some other builds to play with, and this is the most successful non-laser build.

Max armor everywhere, so you can soak a ton of damage with your right arm & right torso
Also the right side is completely empty so you lose nothing if it gets blown off.

Having an generalist approach ( could be useful when the new heat system hits).
Though, standard engine build.
After using up the lrm ammo for some in-direct long range "softening up of targets", you can then go full on ballistics at semi-long, mid range with the Ac 10 and ac 2 for some overlapping dakka supression fire. In close and/ or if empty of ammo, you can fend of pesky foes with 4 medium lasers. Just manage the heat and you will be fine.
The right arm will in the end, for the most part function as a shield arm and I threw in a few CASE's since ammo explosions can spread to important parts of the mech.

jack of all trades. dps build, not a high alpha. lots of ammo and 17 DHS to handle whatever map you land on. good for rookies in the puglife

It is durable and very simple to use, but powerful. It is good for new players and experienced players alike, as new players feel the satisfying punch of direct firepower without shedding a lot of the armor other champions do, and as they grow and become more experienced, they can see the impact heat management and torso twisting has on how long they survive and how much damage they can output, ultimately creating a player that realizes his importance to a team.

1xUAC5+3xASRM6+3xML. XL360, Endo, DHS.
This build takes advantage of the best structure, movement, and UAC quirks of the chassis to make a mean in-fighter. UAC5 can be used to support teams at range, while applying near-constant pressure on opponents in brawl. The missile arm is where your damage comes from, providing brutal DPS with less spread than most splat builds. Medium lasers exploit any weaknesses that the other weapons open up, cover UAC jam periods, or used to add extra damage just outside SRM range. XL360's used over the XL355 as I find the engine is generally more useful in other mech builds.

Longer range build, maximum armor everywhere but the legs (which will tend to be behind cover for most players cresting rises), AMS, 3 tons of LRM ammo for the triple LRM5s gives 36 volleys, 3 tons of Ultra-5 AC ammo gives 45 double-taps, and two good ol' reliable Large Lasers for their nice heat/damage curves. 325XL engine makes it slightly faster than a regular Zeus-5S, the artemis and tag combine to improve the spread of the missiles if you have line of sight, and the beagle boosts the radar range so you can make proper usage of those LRMs 1000 meters range. Also because it has both the beagle and the TAG its not your typical boat that depends on 3rd party targeting for the player.

Yeah, you find those ">14 open slots" mechs in many other threads too. This would be the above mech with Ferro:
