when someone clicks on the trial hunchback and see's laser vomit they get disappointed.
One of my friends that's new to the game is disappointed because to his perspective clans is 98% laser vomit nad nearly running the same build from light mechs to assaults give or take a Gauss rifle. So I best propose a design that is a hunchback IIC rather then a poor mans Stormcrow.
HBK-IIC
A Hunchback IIC with twin UAC 10's and dual ER Medium Lasers. I would have went with dual UAC 20's but that is only forgiving with pillot skills which is not available to a new player.
The armour is heavily increased, still keeps 4 jumpjets, and has 4.5 tonnes of ammo. Not the most ammo in the world but expected of a Hunchback IIC.

Didn't you say on your master guide the reduction in speed wasn't worth it for the slightly higher DPS on the triple 5s? I played both and I agree with your assessment. For the 5's I just dropped the two ERMLs to go to XL255 and stick to hill humping without having to expose the CT as much.

I think you're making a big assumption. There are many reasons why people play trials. Uniqueness is one reason but sometimes they also just want to see how effective a chassis can be without owning it.
Not that the A laser vomit build isn't unique. It's the only clan mech that has that kind of firepower at that weight class and can also JJ into nice positions on Mining, Canyon, etc. Stormcrow can't do that. Nova suffers from lack of heatsinks and low mounted arm weapons. The high mounts are also pretty sweet on pretty much every map but most notably Caustic and Crimson imo.

lately ive been really enjoying the velocity, range, projectile count, and reliability of the uac5s. its slower and relatively less capable at shorter range, but i think they share a pretty similar power level

So. Let's say a proposal around this...
We got 20 clan trial mechs / champions.
1 has a large pulse laser and 6 er mediums
three mechs has 2 large pulse lasers and 4 er meds
another has 1 large pulse laser and a er med
one has 1 large pulse laser, 3 er meds, and a gauss rifle
one has 2 large pulse lasers, 4 er meds, and a gauss rifle
one has 6 er meds
one has 6 er smalls (most unique one so far)
one has 3 er meds and a UAC 10
one has 6 er meds and 2 large pulse lasers...
one has 2 large pulse lasers...
one has 1 guass, 1 er medium, and 2 large pulse lasers...
etc. you get the point...
then we throw in this hunchback: pair of large pulse lasers and then some ER mediums...
how much viarirty does the clans have to a new players eyes? Seeing half of the mechs have all the weapons on one side (reguardless of meta or not, quite a lot of skilled players do not all prefer to have a shield arm/ dead side). 95% of them have a laser vomit seal of aproval of ER meds and large pulse lasers, the acception being the Arctic cheetah at 6 small lasers... etc...
Some of these mechs have a gauss rifle...
Now, I do not mind seeing an energy hunchback if it isn't for the fact literally ALL the clan trials are laser boats right now.
I keep trying to get people to play clans but they find it hard to believe that a clan mech can be good at LRM's, (contendors: Highlander IIC, Warhawk, Mad Dog, Stormcrow, Kitfox, Adder). Or that there are 'Mechs that can handle well with UAC 5's (Hellbringer, Direwolf, Stormcrow). Or a mech can run SRM's, streaks, the other lasers rarely being used, ER PPC's, MG's, UAC 2's, 20's, LBX's, etc.
The worst part is that all these trial 'mechs atm is that they are trying to min max cheese to the current meta and as soon as that meta shifts atm 100% of the clan trials would just slump over and can't stand up straight. some of them may fair better then others but lets look at all the IS meta trials before these redos and stuff...
I personally think a trial 'Mech should priorities on what makes it what it is instead of trying to use a different shape cookie cutter on the same doe.
But if people insist this is the way forward then go ahead I guess. I'll be here saving my builds for the clan trial redo in 3 months.
