Some nerfs in this patch really don't make much sense. What's needed more is to buff some nearly extinct mechs, like Victors, Cataphracts. The ones they nerfed to **** and ones people don't play at all.

He's been playing ONE MONTH...he's gone from Tier 5 to a quarter way through Tier 2. He's got 20 years of FPS playing. He's done it with the locust, kodiak, blackjack and raven. He's spent money on mastery packs. Honestly I think he could do just as well in all the clan mechs without quirks. He clearly doesn't need quirks though his post is on the question of WHO exactly PGI is nerf/buffing the mechs for...what kind of player exactly they're trying to appease. I checked...he's done 55 faction games too. 41 total wins, 13 total losses, 103 kills and 70 deaths and 17 intel collected so he's probably mostly doing invasion mode. He's got 98 IS kills and 5 clan kills.

- Also... Long Tom strike must be reduced to once in 5-6 min. It's support weapon, not main-caliber to bring chaos and destruction. Yes, lowering its power is nice... but when it blow behind mech (assaults and heavy mostly) it kill them in seconds. No armor... no inner structure... no reactor. Nice? Seems not. educing Long Tom shots to 1 per 5-6 min make game better.
- Now, about IS mech quirk down... Honestly, it's not such disaster as it was with mini map in previous patch, but still not a good decision. As previous event show - IS mech may be pretty good tool with mastered pilot skills and can outgun Clan mech in Faction War. But. Clan mech become more "newbie players" friendly. With not a great skill - they can easy beat most of present IS mech chassis. And that become a problem when game earn more "green, pug, casual and so on" players. They buy IS mech, and get really hard frustration feels when starting die to often before they even understand, that problem is in IS mech chassis bought without understanding it's weak points. Yes. Pro gamer and some of those who pretty well know bad and good sides of mech can play even in pug. But they count is pretty low. New gamers have no that knowledge. They pushed to buy Clan mech instead of balanced sides... or take IS and have death after death. Many mech totally disappear from play.
And in store they have no even mech clearage on IS and Clan mech. You can't see only clan or only IS mech in store - only weight and cost. New gamers buy mech cheaper... and if not lucky or buying but how that mech looks - they facing painful true. Some mech can be unplayable just because they can't competitive vs Clan or even some other IS mech.
Buying mech which nearly dead by nerfing and spending all c-bills - make new gamer really sad and thinking that game too hardcore to play. Event where in all faction active was only 3 - show that problem well. All just hooked after strong players who make a play and leave all other factions where disbalance of mech was too strong. Most of faction have no power to oppose Clan mech and now IS mech become even more vulnerable.
Situation become even worse, when player buy Hero mech... which become useless. And this is even bigger problem.
- But... I still hope everything would be fine! I have some mech to change priority and pick another model. Remade builds to new or put another engines... But I won't buy another 2 battlemaster until I try owned in battle after patch. It would be fun to search for new working builds...
- Hmm... anyway... for some time I won't pick IS faction. It's to hard play against Clan mech, which better in many position without compensating by "sheild-sword" mechanic. Clan mech faster, have longer range, more powerful weapon - that IS must have more armor, more weapon slots, and better cooling system. As I see now - using XL make IS mech easy target, many of chassis have too few weapon slot making them less powerful and still with worse cooling system. STD engine change situation, but not greatly.
About that... I have some ideas. When Clan XL side torso dead - mech lost part of it's speed. If IS XL-engine have same ability. but with more speed decreasing instead of mech one-shot - that greatly improve situation in better way. Because of greater Clan weapon range - IS XL mech die before battle even started. Even loosing 55% of speed when side torso destroyed, better than insta-kill. At least pilot can make 2-3 shots to enemy before mech torn apart. Especially now, when Clan weapon gets crit-chances and all other improvements. Yes... it's not like mechwarrior lore and canon... but now it become block not a feature. Mech playable only with XL engine become easy targets and can be forgotten forever. Even now in scouting mission I often hear about "not taking XL mech vs Clan" because it ruin match. Without some addiction protection that mech even with full armor become junk after clan weapons.

Please PGI....do enlighten us as to why those who spent money recently on the game... get this treatment while those who spent money YEARS ago still enjoy indestructible mechs ? Everyone assumes due to the pattern you display, that newish mechs are nerfed to sell newer mechs, but that doesn't explain why mechs that are even older continue to enjoy unfair advantages...
