Personally I think SHC fills its niche perfectly fine. A very fast and nimble medium for scouting, harassing and occasional anti-light duty. You want to boat lasertrash go buy a Nova or a SCR.

You're basically asking a dual guass maddog to be viable because of lore.
Lore is stupid. Do not make the mistake of trying to shoehorn lore builds where they do not belong. The stories in lore are made up based on the writings of dozens of people over the course of decades. None of that **** applies here.
To be clear: 2 LPL shadowcat is not hot, at all and its Extremely consistent and easy to play. You should be pulling 400+ damage in this mech every time you drop it no problem.
Once ER PPC is not a build, and no you aren't better off in a kitfox. Had you said ADDER you would have been correct, but kit fox? Get outta here with that noise.
Gauss medium - The gun weighs 12 tons. Once again this is the case of lore being stupid, you are playing a game and this game has ammo considerations and twice as much armor to worry about. You cannot afford to take a guass rifle in this game, and you simply have to deal with it.
I disagree. While book or story lore may be questionable in terms of gameplay, many BattleTech stock configurations do work in this game, like the Awesome AWS-8Q, Timber Wolf D, Adder Prime, and the Enforcer ENF-5D. Well, I've been able to make them work, anyway.
And I feel the Mad Dog C is viable. If you can't make dual gauss with 40 rounds not work right on a chassis that can go up to 87 kph, you aren't doing it right.
I feel like the OP was too used to the Shadow Cat as it appeared in MechWarrior 4, which is a completely different beast using very different (if not totally arbitrary) construction rules allowing for a lot more free tonnage than the chassis should ever have been allowed.

There is a Dual Gauss MDD, the C variant if I remember rightly.
Sader325 is very good pilot Watchman.
This particular game is not really based on lore either, more loosely affiliated, if it was lore based, we would all be playing stock mechs.
If it isn't lore based, why are we waiting on mechs to arrive based on the year they were made? Customizing a mech is not anti-lore, many famous pilots did as well as a fair few mercs.
Also I am a stickler for lore if it makes sense. obviously it doesn't have to be exact but I want it in line with how things were designed from a technical point of view.

Just so you know, this game is NOT ENTIRELY BUILT AROUND LORE.
If it was it would be a very different game, I guess you are going to need to get over it and keep playing or not get over it and stop playing.
Options are simple.

You've played other Mechwarrior games before, right? I'm one of those walking battletech encyclopedia guys but even I acknowledge that the Mechwarrior IP has and will always take liberties regarding the universe and its rules.
That's also why I play Megamek against other humans. It scratches that itch when Mechwarrior can't, and visa versa.
