Supposing Act of violence versus anyone, pgi or playerbase, is a big no no outside of a dumb joke(i stabeth at thee!), good riddance, sorry he let his emotion get the "best" of him.

Here is a hint for the paranoid, dont post something that would get someone to punch you if you both were in a parking lot together. Shouldnt be too hard.

I don't think Derek did anything wrong necessarily, but I can understand why he was let go in the sense being too partial to the "inmates" around here would be a bad thing.

Andi on the other hand... I don't think was a good choice. I don't think he's a bad person - his personality isn't conducive to being a good moderator (he's not a bad guy - more naive than anything when it comes to being a moderator).

Still, this shows a lot about PGI than anything. Most of the moderators that we have now are pro-PGI guys - that is, they will say "there is nothing wrong with PGI" and you know that's a whole bit of baloney.

What Derek did however is say, "I think there is something wrong too, and I'll see what I can do"... well...you know what you can do - do nothing - the status quo. That is the real message.

I have more respect for Derek than any of the other mods here, and while he did fall on the sword, he did he thought was best for the community... which is more that can be said for our community manager. Remember that the community managers that preceded her were no different... and some obviously worse than what we have now - but no less useful or impactful for the needs of the community.

So, good luck Derek... you tried, and that's better than the bulk of people that aren't up to the task.

Is this tongue and cheek, or did this actually happen? I've only been playing this game for about two years, but only recently did I start lurking the forums...

No, this legit happened back in like, 2013. I forget the exact date, but they completely removed General Discussion from the forums.

The forums responded by eventually turning the "Balance Discussion" section into a bastardized GenDisc anyways. Good times...

There will always be a subforum that fulfills this role, even if it doesn't have the corresponding name...

If quite literally happened.

There was a large, thousand plus response threadnaught of pure rage boiling over from them adding 3pV, and some genius got the bright idea that removing GenDis would make starting such threadnaughts impossible, so the Thought Police of PGI did just that.

It backfired horribly, caused more dumpster fires, and of course they put all the blame on IGP

True, though it was a lot more work. One of the few times I felt the need to lead the lynchmob. But that one really pissed me off

Volunteer Mods dude. They took up the mantle out of what they thought would be contribution to the community.Don't go waving the Standards of HR /moderating flag. That's just dumb.
That was the closest thing to effective "volunteer" moderating PGI will get. Pure and simple, after no real endgame explanation or any real communication for that matter (IE unless it's an emergency bandaid) ever from PGI, they maybe became understandably disgruntled. I know I would without any of the devs backing me up.

I would imagine that they were given at least a modicum of training on what rules they had to follow and what authority they had when dealing with issues. Doesn't matter if it's volunteer or not. If I was working for habitat for humanity (for example) and one of the volunteers started treated his/her co-volunteers or anyone in the area with a complete lack of respect and disregard, I would expect them to receive the same treatment. One day they would just not be there and rightly so. Being a volunteer doesn't mean you get to ignore the rules and act in a way that is harmful to the business or entity that you are volunteering for. I used the HR reference for lack of a better reference. The whole purpose of a moderator is to maintain the forums in a way that isn't going to get the company in trouble and to do their best to maintain civility, not to treat people poorly. It's a thankless job and one that I wouldn't want to do. I can imagine it would be very easy to post something that you shouldn't especially with some of the posts I have seen made here. Some people are just tooo worked up over all this.

This whole situation is absurd.

We all kvetch over the latest nerf round.
Derek tried to take a middle of the road approach and in the end gets fed up with what he sees as our irrational whining and tells us the two proper places to respond (twitter and patch feed back thread of these forums).
People respond with "screw that" we want to talk here and/or I am not opening a twitter account.
So he does it for us in a good faith effort to promote dialog with PGI...PGI takes away his moderator status.

Here I thought we were all proudly a bunch of man children (I play this game as a hobby, so guilty), but PGI I think just proved who is the most juvenile. Well played PGI, well played. You just beat up a guy who volunteered to implicitly white knight for you in an official capacity, and explicitly did so as well. Some one give PGI a slow clap gif. Geezus.
