No i am not trolling haha i seriously want to know how similar/different this game is from mechassault. I watched some videos of the classes on youtube and only saw lasers and missles so i was also wondering if there are more of a variety of weapons

He's just asking...
And no, it's not like Mechassault. Mad Cat, Nova Cat, Uziel, etc. are till here, but Mechwarrior is a completely different beast both in look and gameplay.
There is, however, a new Mechassault game in making. It's called Reign of Thunder and it should be pretty similar. Maybe you should check it out.

@DarkFrost1:
This game will be different from MechAssault in a few points, even though it does share the same universe. For starters, this game is set earlier in the BattleTech timeline. That means some of the more advanced/experimental 'Mechs and weapons you saw there will not be available in MWO. Secondly, this game will be more complex. MechAssault was as arcade shooter; MWO will be more of a simulation. There will be more things going on at once to keep track of, and it will be more difficult to steer, and you will have more options for in-depth customization. Thirdly, your opponents will not be the dumb AI, but rather real players on a bloodthirsty mission to farm you for XP.
Oh, and the graphics will be better

Thank You!(: haha and just saw the mechassault reign of thunder game.....eh that game looks boring and the graphics look bad so ill stick to mechwarrior online. I dont like games that are super fast paced. Plus the graphics in mechwarrior look amazing and its really realistic. Just learned about how you have to monitor heat and there are no repairs. So time to buy my package.

If you want a more accurate impression of MWO I recommend you try out these games instead:
Mechwarrior 3 (MUST TRY, it's hard to get it working on a new system though but if you do you'll love it)
Mechwarrior 4 Mercs (It's F2P, just download it from MekTek. A little more arcady than Mechwarrior 2 and 3, but much much better than MechAssault)

Not sure if the COD guy is trolling, but this is MechWarrior Online, Mechwarrior games are more simulator style, so it will play and feel completely different. Each to their own.

Also, the following 14 'Mechs have been announced so far, each with at least two "variants" (different weapon layouts): Atlas, Awesome, Cataphract, Catapult, Centurion, Cicada, Commando, Dragon, Hunchback, JagerMech, Jenner, Raven, Stalker, Trebuchet.
For all your general BattleTech needs, go to www.sarna.net.

I go between mechwarrior 4 and living legends (crysis mod). Mechwarrior 4 is a good free mech game to hold the founders over until August 7.
And vat, be nice.
