I just double checked on line. Decal is pronouced De (ryhmes with "bee") and Cal (ryhmes with "pal"). Is 'Dek-kel' a Canadian or European pronunciation or something?

Canadian. IDK if Eurpeans do it to, but defintiely a Canadian thing.

Like "EH" at the end of sentences, and Sorry becomes "SOAR-ry", etc. IDK what that's all aboot.

because in one of the townhalls or videoblogs one of the devs pronounced it like that.

so it's just a curious joke that was taken over.

It's dekels. Don't argue. Posted Image

Dekels > Decals.

Its the normal way to pronounce it in Canada and England, as far as I know. Dictionary.com seems to think its legit.

Canadian here, it's always been decals. I never heard "dekels" until Russ called them as such during that presentation way back when...

UK resident here. Pronounced Decal by everyone I have ever met. No one uses Dekel.

The Reason It's Deckles And Not Decals: a while back in a Town Hall presentation, Russ was answering some questions about the 'decal' system and pronounced it 'deckle'. He then asked "Is that how you say it?" and NGNG replied with (paraphrasing): "if the comments/chat stream are anything to go by, it is now." There was laughter, and Russ made the deliberate decision to stick with 'deckle' for a while, reinforcing 'Deckles' as the MWO-ism for decals.

Ever since then, people who like fun and enjoy humor use 'deckle' instead of 'decal' because it's comedic and amusing. Some people get a bug up their behind over it, but to those folks I say cluck off. It's not really a regional thing at all; Russ made a boo-boo, but it was a funny and harmless boo-boo that people decided to run with as a feature.

Ergo, MWO has deckles, not decals. Get it straight :P

You're as likely to get that as you are to get one of a bare chested Russ as a chipendales dancer or a topless Putin riding a bear. Sexual objectification FTW!

I've never been to Canada, let alone discussed the intricacies of deckles with the locals -- however, this is what our friend Merriam-Webster has to say (note the last one):

noun de·cal \ˈdē-ˌkal, di-ˈkal; Canada usually ˈde-kəl\
