Except you don't get to choose your reward. So you may not get the 3 keys.

It doesn't matter that you see that the cache contains 3 keys, since you can't pick what item from the cache you will get, if you open it. So you spend your MCs to open the cache to get one random item.

Thanks, from the picture above with the items all laid out I was starting to think they had changed how it works. I think I will continue to scrimp and save each little MC for the next hero sale, or a camo for my Ravens (their stock is chunked oddly imo).

Did you even watch the video?

Customer misconceptions("They are scamming money off people who don't understand statistics!") led to negative feedback. But now, 75% of all Team Fortress players (at the time of the video) have obtained items from crates and it is regarded as a very popular feature.

Will PGI do it as well as Valve? Probably not. But it may still have some value to the players.

Well, there are two very critical differences here. First one is that TF2 crates have items that can only be obtained by crates, the second is that TF2 items are tradable.

PGI crates only contains stuff that are already in the game for cbills or MC and you can't trade them.

The lack of trading is a major problem in MWO IMO, it would be so much better if we could trade mechs and items we don't need. It would be a way for space rich veterans to help new players out, it would let us get rid of loyalty mechs and other things we no longer want or have duplicates of and so on.

Another major difference is that TF2 has a system for encouraging and bringing content created by the community into the game and even earn those creators a profit. There is no reason, apart from PGI not being interested or able, why MWO could not have that, the games are similar in concept: TDM with different customizable (mechs) that fight it out and are customizable with items.

So no, I don't see PGIs crates doing anything like the system in TF2 unless they upgrade the whole business model to that level with trading, community content and better crate value. No way Jose.

OMG some people will whine about anything. Yes the keys cost a small amount of MC, nobody is forcing anyone to buy keys. I think it's a fun feature. Some people would say the sky is green because PGI painted it blue.

Lol, I never said it would be as good as TF's system, it is PGI after all. I merely stated it might have some value to players. It does seem a better conversion of cash to Cbills for example

My main point was directed at the person who linked the presentation who seemed to think it was a terrible idea that PGI took, when it seems Valve is quite pleased with it.

Nobody should ever use MC to acquire either CBills or equipment that is available for CBills just like how nobody should ever buy a hamburger at a restaurant when you can make one at home for cheap.

Only a sucker would pay someone else to cook a burger for them.

I would like to know if every possible item has the SAME chance to be selected. Does anyone have intel on this?

No gambling system in existence has equal chance to get the grand prize and the other choice. That would be terrible business and there will always be sucker that like to gamble so no need to make it fair.

Why not just ignore that silly system, If a player knows how to aim a minimal he does not need crates and no one does.

From what I understand, the system of crates was put in to lure the none paying players into dropping just a few dollars to generate revenue. Putting that system in the game is in fact a sign that MWO is far from surfing on piles of cash.

Thats what happens when the devs don't stay true to the franchise.

lets go Russ, persist into chasing the white whale.

Agreed, this is ridiculous. Grown men (and women) literally whining about something that is only upside. If you don't want to spend MC on it, then DON'T SPEND MC! Sell them for an extra 50k c-bills and thank PGI for a new feature that literally only gives you things. If you have the extra MC go ahead and buy a key if you want to. Nobody is making you do anything.

As for people who want different things in the crates, I get it, personally I'd love to see color unlocks made cheaper, but again, this is literally only upside. I'm not going to whine that the crates don't have specific things I want.

It shouldn't be gambling in the sense that you cold potentially not get value from the crate. It should always award you something only purchase able from mc

The biggest critical problem so far, is if the "worst valued item" in the crate is worth less than the cost to sell the crate, then there's a problem.

A Flamer would literally fall into that category... and to a lesser extent, a Medium Laser (assuming these are actual drops).

No, it shouldn't. And for a simple reason. You can sell it for c-bills. You are just looking for a way to get premium items super cheap. The only reason keys are so cheap is because they aren't MC only rewards.

You don't like what's in the box, then do what Brad Pitt should've done. Don't open the box!

Then it makes sense for you to go for the c-bills. And here's another thing, btw. If the rewards aren't good enough to spend MC on, they'll eventually change them , they want to monetize. But the intended audience here is new players. For new players, the crates give a good value for the amount of MC. If you're an established player, then you likely don't need the crates that much, take your c-bills and no worries.

I might buy a couple keys and give it a go a few times. Well... probably will, I should say. I theorize though that as soon as I experience it I will realize "Hey, this is a scam" and never repeat my error again.

If you couldn't sell the crates for c-bills, I think I would've landed on the other side of this and gotten annoyed. But as is, it's just 100% upside.

Yeah if your new and your going to spend RL money on C-bills its probably worth doing events getting Mc and then spending them on keys.

if there were small trans actions of MC it might even bet worth doing that, if your less than a year into the game, having to buy 1250MC last time I looked purely for keys is a bit ermm though..

My beef isn't with them isn't because they are in game, just the end screen of each match
