I, for one, will say I am ecstatic about the direction the game is taking!! I absolutely loved Multiplayer Battletech 3025 and the idea of full fledged war for planets, resources and victory!! The single person Simulation combat that became so popular seems very short lived and contrary to what the Battletech universe is all about. I like the persistence and consequences that go into ever single combat. I want people to think twice before they charge an Atlas with a Jenner just because in the end they hit the Reset button and start over. I like that every decision will have consequences (at least I hope they do).
Anyway, just wanted to say I know this may not be the direction you initially intended to take the game, but I think it is the best direction.

Till this game comes out, I still have MW2 to tide me over.

Multiplayer will be great , But a bit of solo play for idling a bit of time away would be useful . To be able to practice your moves without getting in your teams way.

But now all I'm thinking is that the extent to which players are willing to roleplay will make or break this game... And with the kind of talk I'm seeing on the forums here so far, I *am* feeling very optimistic.
I'd better pick out where I'm coming from and start reading up on lore again.

Just want to gently disagree with this. More information is always better than less. The post was stickeyed for the links to all the information, not for my little mini-tirade.

The fact that gamers have such high expectations of a Mechwarrior game can only be a great compliment to the series to date. Mechwarrior 2 was part of the fabled class of 1998 games and one might argue it was among the leaders. Mechwarrior 4 is still played online, TEN YEARS after its release. Few games are loved that much. So I think its only natural for fans, people who love the series, to see it taken to the next level.
But games have changed tremendously since MW4. Twitch gameplay is all the rage now and lets be honest - Mechwarrior, TRUE Mechwarrior doesn't fit that mold. So the publishers look at their trusty Venn diagrams and as they start drawing lines that intersect for a true Mechwarrior game, the numbers just didn't make sense for them to invest the kind of cash a game like this needs and deserves.
Here's what I know. If this game takes off (and it will only take off if we are the best possible word of mouth ambassadors) then we will all get to see that magical AAA multiplatform release (minus Sony, of course)
So let's get out there Mechwarriors. Go find your nearest gaming forum and strike up a conversation about how much you love Mechwarrior. It's infectious. Try it.

It isn't really the majority of people, just a very vocal minority assisted by the speed and ease of the Internet. They have a fast food mentality, feeling entitled to everything -perfect-, feeling entitled to it for -free-, and feeling entitled to it -right now-.
They also harbor some distrust of "wallet warriors" because they actually have jobs and care about buying things they like to enjoy them more. They don't hate the fact that they're rich, they hate the fact that they're different from themselves, or perhaps the fact that they contribute to a society/economy which the non-wallet warriors have withdrawn from.

There's also nothing stopping Piranha Games making a single player game later on once they have renewed enough interest in the series. Some single/co-op PvE missions would also be a viable option here.
Indeed. If this game does well - nothing is stopping them from continuing with the license and creating other games.
