well then you need bigger monitor. Because it quite plainly isn't, my friend.

If it isn't, it has to be a very small portion of the "eye' or it'll be the most headshot robot since the original Atlas.

Well if its the whole ray dish, its pretty dumb..and monitor is perfectly fine

it's the entire orange circle/tie fighter windscreen, yes. Which puts it on par with a goodly number of cockpits in MWO for size.

Firstly, on a large monitor, it's easy to tell that "black box" is just more unfinished metal, secondly, cockpits are all that funly orange glass in MWO, essentially.

Call it dumb if you like, but it's always been the "eye" of the cyclops, in every iteration.

Dude.

How long have you played this game?

Hitbox is ALWAYS a small portion of the physical cockpit. ALWAYS. Seriously, after 4 years...people still bring up this head shot stuff?

well, since I have literally never died to headshot in my Shadowhawk, in over 1000 matches... I guess that is a good head hitbox to have?

Yeah, I think I have never even been headshotted. Maybe once and that wasnt in my Shadow Hawk. So its cp hb is not a worry at all (same for most mechs IMO)
Just because the cockpt glass looks big dosent mean the cp hitbox is the same size. Its always, as far as I know, 2/5 the size of the cockpit area itself.

The most I was headshotted was early 2015 when Twin Gauss Jagers were everywhere, since twin gauss isn't as common now it happens a lot less. Even then I have died to maybe 4 headshots in my time in MWO and one headshot was from over heating at the end of the match as last mech alive.

So long as the entire side of the torso bulge is not ST it won't have Archer Syndrome, if the central bulge is all CT then it will be like the dragon. Optimal would be something along the lines of the stalker or catapult where it is half way and somewhat angled. I want there to be a bit of CT hit-able from the side so it is easier to roll damage by catching it with the 'nose' but not so easy that you can shoot the CT from all directions.

I couldn't dig up the texturing stream (if it ever happened, because i only remember the Viper's texturing stream).
But i did find the cockpit stream's screencaps on Reddit though... Oh man, it looks good. Basically like a TIE fighter.

Looks cool...also looks like another mech with barndoor hitboxes.

Wonder how ridiculously quirked out of the box it's gonna be?

Ridiculously quirked as the Archer or the Phoenix Hawk? Sure...

I've been a Cyclops fan since I first saw the original boxed set, for reasons I never quite understood. Maybe because it's a "strange" looking 'mech - it certainly wasn't for the armour coverage Posted Image Had to preorder it, can't wait for the 23rd. I'm hoping one of the paint channels on the Malocchio "Special" is the whites of the eyes covering its chassis - dark red paint and black eyes with purple, red or blue pupils would be awesome Posted Image

Also, the "eye" is absolutely the cockpit - check out the modeling WIP and behold MWO's very own TIE Fighter:-

EDIT: Ninja'd! Darn you Juodas! *shakes fist!*

So, the Cyclops is a TIE Fighter, and the Raven is an X-Wing? Posted Image

Any word on the return of glowing red cockpit light?

You know, with a toggle function like we got with claws?

Cause you know, Red orb of impending doom and whatnot. Rule of cool is what the Cyclops is all about anyway.

IIRC, MW4 had the whole head piece as a weapon pod - I recall it being common to load the Large Continuous Beam Laser (LCBL) there, to have the MW4 Cyclops "firing a continuous ray of death from its 'eye'".

IIRC, the actual cockpit hit-box of the MW4 Cyclops was relocated to the upper chest, just below the gun-pod head (so that the gun-pod head - a "special" component - could be shot off without killing the 'Mech).

That is probably why so many people seem to (wrongly) think that the Cyclops' cockpit wouldn't be in the 'Mech's head? Posted Image

since the MW4 Cyclops is a typical MekTek abomination, and not canon, well, not a me problem.

(and the "Large Continuous Beam Laser is as much an abomination...as was David White's insistence to remove all the hands)

To be fair, though, hand actuators in both MW4 and MWO are functionally useless and don't add anything except style though that's more a fault of the games, right?

don't overlook style. They've been function-less in EVERY MW title. But they are very much part of the Btech Universe aesthetic and the removal of them was jsut one of a litany of derivations from previous MW titles that annoyed the crap out of me with MW4. (still played the heck out of it though)

It would be fun to be able to give an opposing mechwarrior a one fingered taunt though, don't you think?

There's enough disrespect around here and in game, no need to for more means to do it ;)

Oh, you mean Catalyst Games most recent box set, not the original... the Cyclops didn't come out until 2 years after the 2nd edition was released in 1985. (1st edition was called Battledroids. Lucasfilm looked at them funny so they changed it to BattleTECH.)
