Actually there was something official posted from PGI about the Heavy event being held around the first week of September. That is usually accompanied by the sale. I would have to spends some time finding the post but I believe it was Alexander Garden responding to a post for one of the other recent events.
Edit: Found it. My mistake, it was not Alexander it was Matt Newman:

Atlas Added to sale. (how did I miss that guy?) (also, how do you not own 5 already?)
Kodiak was just recently made available for MC so it is not on sale. (you could grab a standard pack for 20 USD)
We have modified the Pug Queue matchmaking restrictions to accommodate the event.
Heavy Leaderboard will be early Sept. before the Night Gyr Release
and you can count on the traditional Cyclops Leaderboard the weekend after it's release.
Oh yeah and...
2016 Customer Appreciation Rewards announcements are incoming soon ™
My work is done here.

I do but found the answer myself...
>> Rewards will be injected as the goals are achieved, but injections may be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
It was 15 minutes with previous events.

Thanks for posting the official response. I do hope they run a heavy sale at the same time as well. I've been saving my C-bills to get the Archers as that is the only Alpha Lance Mech I didn't order.

But seriously, for me it is really scary that most of the mechs are Clan. Everybody with the opinion that clan mechs are not working and IS is OP - please have a look at these leaderboards and rethink. Seeing these leaderboards I am really proud finishing my personal challenges only with my IS mechs although far away from the first 75 people of each weight class. It is a game and I don't want to spend my weekend only for a game.
I know this is not Faction Play with all the OP IS mechs (watch out for some sarcasm again) but most of the players playing MWO are playing QP and so I am seeing this as a reflection for the mechs used within QP. And now I am not wondering at all why PGI releases so many clan mechs within the last weeks and months.
Maybe somebody at PGI will get thoughtful seeing these leaderboards and why many players playing IS mechs started complaining. But honestly? I don't believe this myself.
Puh, a little bit of frustration less.

Yup... My upset about OverNerfing Catapults and Novas in a nutshell. They're not balanced anymore.

Nerfed Novas? Really?? I tried mine since a looong while for this event, man they are killers now!
Anyway, here are some numbers*
*Event still going, so a bit prematurely but it's nice to spot the trends.
Didn't care to put Top Score, since those are mostly extreme outliers, reasoned that making Top50 or Top10 is more indiative of an achievable 'good' score and a 'pretty darn good!' score.
Also, not reflected in the numbers, but whe I started with counting only the Top25 mechs, the nr of variants was way lower. Like only the top 4 or 5 'mechs are there. Especially Kodiaks are breaking the system it seems.
Top 50 'Mechs in each weightclass:
LIGHT:
ACH 34
LCT 12
JR7 10

WHK 1
Clan: 58
IS: 17
Score for top 50: 3000+
Score for top 10: 3500+
---
Some personal interpretation:
-Clanners > IS, at least as this leaderboard goes.
-Most balanced in terms of Clan vs IS: Lights and Assaults
(Cool to see the Locust vs Arctic Cheetoh arms-race, although the LCT nerf seems to have given the crown back to ACH as king of lights)
-Most balanced in terms of Variants performing well: Meds and Heavies
(and although WHM seems to top the list, it doesn't show that much in the highest ranks)
-Kodiaks break the charts; top 20 is almost exclusively them, and the top 5 scores is ridiculously high
(all 4000+ and nr 1 even topping 5000!)
-Weight Class balancing seems about right in terms of DMG output: Assault > Heavy > Med > Lights, each time jumpin about 200 pts per class.
(Although I personally always kinda disagree with the whole "Lights are NOT SUPPOSED to be able to deal lots of DMG!" But hopefully this should shut up the "LIGHTS OP, NERFPLZMOAR!1!!" crowd)
-I kinda suck at this; highest position 4500+ (eventhough I made top 50 last time on the Mediums boards!)

Most likely to even out the types of Mechs they've released this year. When December rolls around they'll have released 6 IS Mechs and 6 Clan Mechs. Maybe if they didn't start so IS heavy they wouldn't have had to end the year so Clan heavy. Of course I didn't really here IS purists complaining when they released IS Mech after IS Mech.

Just to reiterate, any matches that ran during this period did count toward your event progress.

sorry my friend, this is a joke.
I am not a bad player and it took me an evening to finish 2 categories.
easy to do but not in 2 hours for a normal gamer
I don't do lights, so maybe 4.5 hours, though with kids that got spread out over two days. No constant play for me.
