I suspect the death ratios are so bad that there is no fixing things.


Survival time and damage varies with the day. Some days I do better solo pug and other days it's better with the Unit. Yesterday was 30 plus deaths in a row over the afternoon in solo and about 50/50 survival in the evening with the Unit but damage output remained low.

nova Prime - 2 ERmed,10 SPL short range brawler, bodyguard


Hellbringer - AC10, AC5, 3 ER med brawler, bodyguard


Blackjack 2 ac5, 6 med laser


mist lynx 3 er med 2 srm 4


ebon jaguar 3 uac 5, 3 er laser

raven 2 er large - stay back at range for sniping


stormcrow with 5 streak srm or just regular srms
stormcrow ac 10,, 6 er med

Wow, them look HOT.

You're hear should be 1.3 or above.
Seems to me you'd spend alot of time shut down or overriding till suicide.

Your goal should be small and simple, land 10 full hits a game, that's all. 10 full duration alphas with cERMLs adds up to about 11.5 seconds of fire time (we will round that up to 12 for simplicity). None of the builds you listed are any good, also never use regular clan ACs they are pointless, the clan UAC weapons can fire twice as fast which makes the damage negated to jamming worth it.

your ebon can dual wield uac 10 and have 3 mediums to back it up

your nova should not break ghost heat, (6small OR medium lasers) try a large pulse and 6 other small lasers

your blackjack is way too hot, it needs an XL235 and a 1.2 heat efeciancy at least.

that lynx is garbage, run it with 4 small pulse laser and back stab.

that raven will never get high numbers, you simple arent doing enough damage in a short enough time, also keep mind that though you might be doing SOME damage at 1000m its OPTIMAL range is where you need to be to do full damage, however i think most would recommend upgrading to large pulse and getting closer.

on the stormcrow streaks arent as good as regular srms, you can do 3srm6 and 5 smallpulse your other build needs to upgrade that cannon to a uac and downgrade all the other medium lasers to small pulse lasers.

That will only build bad habits, especially since he already has a feel for the game. Being the first one in and last one standing is the ultimate goal. I can carry and get many more wins if I use pugs as bait, but that's the opposite of how you need to play when you drop with a good team against a good team.

What? 12 smalls is incredible, it's one of the coolest running dps machines there is. you're just crazy if you don't like that build. My favorite Stormcrow is 4mpl 6spl, just don't alpha and it runs plenty cool also.

Normally id agree, but here is a more user friendly variant. i dont expect him to be able to handle ghost heat very well under pressure, if his stats are anything to go by and i dont want him getting his arms shot off and being useless.

its got the meta small pulse for the close medium work and the large pulse allows him to contribute while he is now supposed to be hanging out with his team, and its not too hot so he can alpha forever in the brawl.

Note there's no judgment here, just there are tons of little things that can be done, many of which some players simply don't know about.

This is a huge thing. Correct mouse DPI and sensitivity can make a WORLD of difference.

I meant that he must know the basics by now, like how to move, weapon groups, ammo, heat... stuff like that. His aim is probably a problem but other than that the only other thing is tactics, and cowering in the middle of your allies is a bad habit.

1) Disable enhanced pointer precision and lower mouse speed in windows
Start->Control Panel->Mouse->Pointer Options->
a) Remove Checkmark for enhanced pointer precision
Lower pointer speed to 5 notches

2) In MWO settings -> mouse settings
a) Lower acceleration and smooth to 0
lower sensitivity really really low, like 0.17 to start and go lower and lower as you get more comfortable (I use 0.11)

Congratulations, you can now hold your lasers on a target and are not using your lasers like a light sabre.
