Uh oh.. They announced this:

"Revamp of Skill Trees • A major initiative – currently top secret..."

Remember those two crappy mechs you sold after maxing out the skill tree on all three? Well, you will need to buy them all back or not be able to advance on the "NEW" skill tree.

LOL..Did you think they would just let you sell them and forget them? Better to force you to spend cash to buy them back, take up mech bays to hold them, buy new mech bays, and spend $$$ to advance them on the "new" skill tree.

I for one hoping that they FINALLY decided to f*ck the 3 mech mastery nonsense and throw it out.

But it's PGI... So who the hell knows.

Good thing the only mech I ever sold back was that stinking Cicada 3C (I hate you). All my other mechs ever purchased are collecting dust in my mech bay museum.

This, of course, means PGI is going to give the 3C 90% ERPPC cooldown and 10x machine gun damage quirks in a future patch. Heck, throw in a little cape it can wear with an "S" on it too.

It's in the road map, the URL is below, well atleast the first part anyway

http://mwomercs.com/...40#entry5331340

They will never decouple the 3 mech thing because that is their primary vehicle for you to buy mechs. All of their steam "mastery packs" and packages would hold much less value if the 3 mechs to mastery wasn't a thing.

If PGI was really awesome they would do something like

Light Trees - Scouting, Striker, sniper/skirmisher
Meduim trees- Brawler, Fire support, Scout/skirmisher
Heavy- fire support, Sniper, command
Assault- Command, Fire support, Front line

There are posts floating around the forums with much better ideas than mine, it was just a quick thought.

However, referring to PGI's track record they will probably insert more tiers for more exp sinks, and make the skills different depending on your weight class with no option with in your weight class

.

If this goes down, and PGI doesn't count the mechs all players have mastered, sold or not, there will be no point of return for them.
I really hope they don't do this, it will be a HUGE mistake on their end if they do.

My guess would be that they refund all your XP/Skill points to reallocate in the new skill trees as you see fit. At least that is how I would do it if I was the one in charge.

Whatever they come up with, it will be a huge XP sink.

There are a lot of us sitting on a pile of it and nothing to use it on. And, more importantly from PGI's perspective, no incentive to spend money converting it.

I agree conceptually that they should refund all XP and let us apply it to the new trees as we see fit.

its a good guess, because i recall either reading or hearing it on a podcast that they were going to refund your XP for the new system.

besides, i generally didnt sell many of my mechs, just a cicada and a cataphract (which i did go ahead and re-purchase later)

Pure unadulterated bullpucky hyperbole with full intent to stir derision.

OP felt so bad by this effort they used their smurf account.

Under the current system - even if you have a billion GXP, you can't spend it on mechs you don't own. Or at least that's the way it was the last time I tried (which was 2 years ago or whatever) - but I doubt it's been touched since then.

Not to nit pick (oh who am I kidding, I am totally nit picking), but the steam packs are anything but mastery packs. The steam packs are two mechs, one clan, one inner sphere, if you want to master the mechs you have to buy four more mechs to do so. The mastery packs are only available in game or through the mwomercs store.

They could give us back the XP points spent for the old system to use them on the new. I was told that they did that in the past.
Likewise, for the new system they could could consider "unlocked" the mech you already mastered, even if you sold them.

A new skill tree could give to each variant a different specialization (e.g. with different roles, like scout with a bonus for sensors, etc).
Right now we have all the same bonus for all variants, really boring.

New skill tree as a revenue tool is interesting. I have several hundred thousand XP accumulated in mastered mechs... give me a reason PGI.

They might, but what do we think the odd are that new said system will be actually worse?

They will change from 3 to having to own ALL VARIANTS in order to master it. I really dont doubt it at all.

I'm pretty sure that even PGI realizes that enraging their player base by making them buy back old variants would be a bad idea.

But it is PGI we're talking about so who knows.
