Bushwhacker: A 55 ton medium mech with a better profile than the nova, squat and wide, with almost all the guns and missile pods on level with the cockpit. This made it ideal for ambushing and sniping on terrain, thus the name "bushwhacker".

Meanwhile, at PGI: "Let's take the linebacker, the mad dog, and the vulture and mr potatoman them together!" :pgi:

Looks like the real deal from FASA.

So is the problem the PGI didn't redesign it to min/max hillhumping meta?

Not trying to deny that the clans aren't stronger than IS pound for pound but the guy I was addressing made the assertion that the introduction of the clans caused the downturn of the franchise based on his experience where battletech TT players started getting unhappy and quitting due to clans arriving

Even accepting that fact, I see it as the TT declined in the early 90s...but at the same time, the Mechwarrior side of the franchise exploded and has sprouted many games since while the TT languished and attempts to reboot it failed.

So I guess I'm trying to ask if he's gauging the success of the battletech universe as a whole based solely off how well the TT version is doing which I would suggest is not being fair.

Yeah somebody got lazy with the Copy/Pasting and nobody gave the page a proof-read before putting it up.

I quit TT because the group I played with stopped playing after the Clans came out. They just didn't like the Clans and didn't enjoy playing with them. We did a lot of mixtech and that was alright, but in the end,I do see the Clans as being the start of the downfall. We just didn't enjoy them that much, sure it was cool, but to us,they were too easy to break balance with, and vanilla pre clam balance wasn't always the best then either. (with one of the main balancing being cost in a campaign. We could win by attrition in some campaigns we played but it just got boring and drawn out)

TT and games in general kinda stagnated in the early 90s and mid 90s. Mechwarrior was also competing against other games like Sierra's Starseige and other titles that were mech based in the time.

I think the only two TT games that really never suffered too badly was DnD and WH40K(but that game has a whole host of issues I won't go into) but that's because they've pretty much always had big communities. Big stompy never really got huge.

Will the P1 variant be able to mount a AC20 in the right arm since it doesn't have a lower arm actuator?

Looks like it would, unless that's a typo.

I have a decent head canon idea for wob: they were set up by Blake himself fearing uprisings inside Comstar ages ago.
There they are, working in the shadows of the shadows of comstar, salvaging and upgrading old/cutting edge tech behind everyone's backs. All those projects sabotaged over the years of the successor wars? Some were saved and improved upon under even Comstar ROMs noses. The warship fleet coming from no where? Every derelict that was in "danger due to damage of reentry over civilized areas"? "Don't worry, we can tow it out of system for you. Never you worry about the bill, it's our service to the star league..." and they just kept cybernetic tech in the under skin variety mostly for keeping out of notice.

Clans... Whooo. Currently would need a major retcon more then wobbies of something like an offshoot of the sldf that didn't have the warfare the current clans does. Basically the clans golden age has practically none of the warfare even in the current canon. Or just laboriously try to rebuild rack Mech with lv3 IS tech as close as possible.

still has a hand actuator, so typo... plus one needs 10 free crits for an ac20, that one even if correct would only have 9.

Does it offer anything new and interesting in terms of builds?

its got well dispursed ballistic points, i expect to see more tripple uac5 builds. i doubt you can do a tripple 10, maybe tripple lb10, but you are gonna need to run really slow for that. quad 2 will probibly be a thing on one varient. looks like a lot of missile points too, some varients will be able to do 5x5 lrms. laser options seem kind of sparse.

Maybe the Hand actuator is the typo Posted Image
Since i'm pretty sure lower arm actuators are required to have hand actuators (unless my memory is failing me completely).

I think it'd be pretty cool if that one variant won't have the actuators and have enough critspace for an AC20 (a bit weird that the mech comes with an AC5 by default, though)

I always liked this mech for it's awkwardly blocky and stumpy design, but first look at hardpoints gives me a sense it will perform horribly bad in MWO, definitely skipping this one.

It seems outclassed by other mechs in it's class. If you want an srm brawler we have Griffins. If you want ACs you have Centurions. If you want to to use the hero for that 3E arm.. you have WVR-6K. And all of these mentioned have humanoid torsos with better hitboxes. Also the hardpoints are spread all over the place, doesn't look good for convergence.

I just don't know what to make of it.I just.. I see no point. Crab somehow works because it's low tonnage energy boat, but this thing has too many missile and ballistic slots spread around the whole chassis, with a vulnerable chassis design. I think it's cool but at the same time it might be one of the worst Mechs in the game.

Look at the P1 ...AC/20 and SIX SRM slots looks like a scary brawler to me. The hand has to be a typo. i want it. but yeah the rest of the variants look pretty meh.

How will you fit all that on the 55 ton chassis? If I want an srm brawler I rather get a Griffin, it looks much more durable to me than the jet plane torso Bushwacker. I would bet my Kodiaks that BSW will suck at brawling compared to his competitors, even with those hardpoints. The side torsos will just fall apart the moment you look at it.

Nah but you need that AC/20 ...SRMs alone aren't magical. And it's easy enough to step down to SRM4's they fire faster they almost work better. It's like my fav mech in the game is the Centy AH... all ballistic and missile...**** energy weapons

CN9-AH is boss. No lame lasers that distract you from torso twisting. The AH inspired me to drop lasers from Wolverine-6R and 7D. 1 laser is IMHO never worth it (unless on a DPS build that does not benefit from troso twisting). Two lasers is right on the edge - though most often I remove them from brawlers like Atlas-S.

Mark my words, it's going to be the Marauder of the Medium class - A veritable tank. Hardpoint layout aside, the mixture will lend itself to working well with ED (Once it's live).

Pre-ordered the Ultimate pack... January can't come fast enough.

As per the Kodiak and Maruader IIC, PGI is going to make up their own variants so that they don't have to add any new equipment to the game.

I would like this in agreement because we know PGI is lazy...

But PGI might think I like that they make up their own variants to avoid adding real new content.
(Made up variants are fine... avoiding real new content like new systems to use is not).

The hand had to be a typo.

That kind of selective wishful thinking usually leads to disappointment

This is false, the only reason bigger mechs use AC20s is to avoid ghost heat shenanigans (and because all but the Cyclops have the hardpoints).
