Explains a lot, really. Their focus absolutely is not making the game more interesting for more people - it's bare minimum to slow departure a bit (things like ED) and then crushing populations tighter to account for losses.
This is a fundamental business approach to getting ready to close up shop. The promise of 'we're working on Solaris' is just a window-dressing for QP. Solaris is nothing but a QP environment. Anyone expecting it to be anything but maybe some new maps and a new leaderboard doesn't understand what Solaris VII is.
They failed to even make CW/FW/FP, some actually pretty low hanging fruit expectations (CBT FFS) for a game concept into something people wanted to play. It had decent buy-in at first but then a series of bad decisions and missing critical features just bled it out. Instead of adding the missing critical features (point to taking planets/faction membership et al) they added stuff like LT and then refused to remove it. They added huge multi-million dollar penalties to units who were successful at finding and recruiting new players into FW because... well that's going to work well.
They've pretty much screwed up MW:O so much they don't know where to fix it and are just wanting to spin some wheels and get people to buy some mechs while they make a new game in the mistaken idea that starting out with a new game (that they will inevitably make the same failures on) will work out better.

Not planning to buy it at this stage, reasons…
- Waiting to see how the dust settles on ED
- Don’t think another mech pack will add anything different enough to my current MechWarrior experience
- There is a certain, more twitchy shooter, that is releasing in the not to distant future… so I’m likely to spend time capping flags in another universe for a while.
- Lack of new stuff; maps, game modes, weapons, tech…
- No history with the game universe... so no lore or historical affection to motivate me.

It was the NGNG podcast that wasn't a townhall, but it was a townhall, but only about FP.
That'd explain it. Haven't bothered with their podcasts in months... Kind of like the game itself. Guess I'll have to listen to that one though. About how far in was it?

The announcements tonight was the last straw. I'll play the game for fun and to ensure my previous purchases aren't completely wasted, but I won't give them another dollar.
Hairbrained... I hope they are watching how this is unfolding and learning how not to do business.

You mean give PGI money, right? AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAAHAHA... NO. I will not be doing that.
If at some point the game takes a direction I feel makes sense, then I might buy something again, but its going to take a lot of convincing at this point.

Yeah. Pretty much a lot of just closing up shop on stuff and proposed changes. Nothing really to bring people in, just trying to deal with people getting matches still as everyone leaves.
It's like a shop that's closing just cleaning and removing shelves and moving what's left up near the front instead of putting up new stock. They may not have a 'going out of business sale' in the window but it doesn't take a genius to see what's happening.
Heh...i remember that feeling with FASA. Caught me totally by surprise when I was transferred to FASA offices by I forget if it was Ral Partha ogre Ironwinds by then.... But was trying to get some Novacat minis, next thing I know I'm talking to Donna Ipollito, and getting the last 3 novacats I stock at FASA and some sourcebooks, etc, finding out at the same time FASA was closing shop.
Needless to say, it was still a better experience than the last year here. Be great if PGI should MWO to HBS....

Haven't ordered a pack since KDK, and thanks to misguided attempts to nerf the KDK3 ruining my KDK4 instead.... I even regret that. Only mech in the last two years I don't regret is my RFL-3N.

General consensus was no.
Anyone who said yes, basically said no. "I like it but I wait for c-bills"
If someone at PGI does read the forums and actually gives a crap about what they read then they can count them. I'm burnt out at this point. That's why I don't even bother posting constructive anymore. I just hear a little voice in my head (in mocking fashion) say " You're not a game developer! We know what we're doing you don't! You're feedback is not needed!"
I just wish a chef would say that to a food critic lol...

Hey funny how the general rule of thumb was mechs with "current tech" looks at cyclops and shakes head...

I feel like I'm the only one that might theoretically buy it with real world money. And that's just because I'm terrible with money management and have a problem with buying stuff in F2P games+having painfully strong nostalgia-tinted glasses for the Bushwacker. Thankfully, I'm basically flat broke right now so unless something massive changes, the decision has been made for me.

Yup I'm kinda the same way. I too freely spend my money on stuff I shouldn't. Until you challenge my ego or I feel taken advantage of! Then at that point good luck prying it from the grasp of my dead hands.
Roughly spent about $2,500 on GTA 5, Pokèmon Go, and my Titan X (Pasal). Oh well I guess my deadline is Dec and if that is a disappointment I'll never come back. DEC 3 is the day I decide if MWO will deserve any further support from me.
PVE and an engine upgrade is what I'm looking to see.

They just announced the functional closure of FW. It's likely PGI is investing in a new game and keeping investment in MW:O to a minimum and hoping people buy mech packs anyway.
Russ was ready to start his new version of Marine Sharpshooter back when they had that kickstarter for the space game that we must not name.
Russ likes to make shooty games. But not actually most of the game, just the shooty parts. Problem is, he f'd this chance up so bad, the only way he will be able to start any new project at this poit is if he is a silent partner/dev and no one knows he is there. MWO has turned out to be a fancy looking robot Marine Sharpshooter, and will go down in history with about as much prestige.
As for Bushy? I haven;t played a match in like 3 months. I think, I dunno maybe 2.5- I haven't logged in to look at the basic Cyclops pack I bought yet.
At this point, unless Russ is announcing they are much farther along on a PVE game then we think they are at mechcon, we can expect a couple last cashgrab mechs(nostalgia driven chassis), which was actually my immediate response to the image on the front page- when I saw the bushy my gut reaction was "oh man, this game is officially on de-escalation mode" before I even heard this snippet about FW. The FW comments just tell me the daily or even weekly player numbers have declined significantly and PGI has realized there is no way to make a MM or otherwise for FW work anymore because there is just not enough players to do it and never will be again.
My hope for the last several months is HBS will be able to buy Russ out and save us all with an actual mechwarrior game. I would think if PGI is in cashgrab mode with nostalgia mechs now, Russ might be open to it. If mechcon goes poorly for PGI, it will simply serve to devalue the game and bring that notion closer to possible.
Best case scenario: HBS buys rights to MWO from Russ. Maintains server for us to screw around with current form of MWO on while they take assets and build us a proper game on a new engine. HBS hires Alex to continue the artwork. Maybe a couple others also, I am not familiar with all of PGI staff.
Worst case: Russ decides to take his pile of money, pay out whatever severance pay he needs to to close down the studio, shuts down MWO and gives us all the bird by holding the rights for as long as possible so we can;t have a new game because he holds a grudge against a faceless crowd and blames us all for his failures.
I mean I dunno, I am hoping PGI can be bought off but at the same time I could see the second one happening. Heh, I laugh to myself thinking I am writing this on the official forums, but who am I kidding, as if they will ever read this.

They would just ruin my wallet completely if they had the Mad Cat Mk II or anything else Diamond Shark related showed up. I'm just HOPING they don't do that so I can finally escape MW:O as a whale.
I'm still sitting here begging PGI to give us Armored Warfare style PvE and Unreal engine.

I can 100% see Paul and Russ deciding to shut down the servers and everything, and turn the website into just 1 video of them both giving the playerbase double middle fingers each while money rains down on them.

That would be very very interesting; better: it would give us ol' farts new hopes for the brand.
But ...try to remove the bone to a bad and hungry (of $) dog.
A dog agrees only if it has something else to eat (aka: another game).
The dog should be rather skinny right now: yestarday I logged in the first time in 3 months...and I saw only one Viper and 3 Cyclops in 15 drops! LOL
I can see a difference with 1-2 years ago, when new mechs coming available.....
Stefka K.
(posting with alt account, because despite being away for 3 months, Stefka account is still banned despite it received only a 1 month ban. Working as intended)

That is actually a valid concern I share. Nothing in the past few years has given me confidence to say "they would never do that". However, if HBS were to offer a buy out, it would give the trolls something to think about- to compare the weight of their ill-placed grudge vs the weight of the $ offer.
i dunno. i secretly hope Russ is going to be like "yeah, PVE in 2 months *******, check out this playable beta!!" at mechcon. But I also feel like that would be nigh on a miracle coming from that espurts man.
