I would agree with you if you just said PGI will not add new tech because that means they will actually have to do something. Honestly thought hey really don't have a choice. Not too many clan mechs left without a time jump and they seem to be perfectly content with making their own variants.

Lots of mechs out there as long as PGI can just make up as many variants as they want. Probably more than enough to last the remainder of their licensing agreement.. As long the have a base model , they've shown themselves content to make up all the rest.

Crustaceans are related to arachnids, not insects, actually..

Because it might breath a little life in the variety factor of playing different mechs. Sure it won't be great but at this point it would be the easiest way to get some variety compared to new game modes and fixing the disaster that is faction warfare.

Point is, they are making it pretty apparent they don't plan on doing so, but add with most things, won't come out and say so, the better to milk people over.

Not disagreeing we won't ever get new tech, just disagreeing that it wouldn't help things (balance would be screwy, but that is a permanent facet here).

When the gunplay and maps suck, it won't matter whether you have 20 or 200 guns to choose from.

Gun play isn't bad and some of the maps are decent, so yes, having new guns would help, if only for a little bit.

aka the PGI policy of taking the wagon train to California and stopping/settling in Missouri.

I was simply pointing out the flawed premise some had put forward, that future tech inherently fixed balance, which it never did.

MWO balance, is already screwed up, some tech might help, some will cause even worse imbalance. Probably.

With PGI's approach to ballistics, I can only imagine RAC being Uber broken, or total junk, etc. And I don't trust them to even balance IS UACs correctly. Heck, they never really have fixed Pulse Laser, Gauss and ERPPC between the tech bases.

Never fixed TT balance.

They are all arthropods, this is true.

Crabs being Decapods actually, but not in MWO, we only have TWO legs.

They would be perfectly balanced because Energy Draw, obviously. All you do is tweak energy values and it makes balance perfect.

Or so I'm told...

That would imply that PGI is able to make those tweeks... MG's how ever disagree with them being able too...

To be fair, I don't think that the Heavy LL could be much worse for balance than the 15-PPFLD Clan ERPPC.

I'm going to buy it probably because

If you have the money and are able to then you should, for the bonuses.

If it looks like a turkey, or the quirks suck, or you simply hate what P.G.I are doing, but you still play for some inexplicable reason ( I probably fall into this catagory ) then you can cancel your order during the count down, if you chose to.

I don't think Heavy lasers would be that hard to balance. Instead of sacrificing duration, for more range, they would sacrifice duration for more damage. Doesn't sound too earth shattering.

Don't forget range. Their default range is the same as the equivalent IS normal laser, e.g. the Heavy ML has 270m optimal range.

Sacrificing duration might be iffy though, as I can already imagine the Heavy LL being given the same crazy duration that the Clan ERLL used to have...

I would rather just have PGI keep the heat values high enough that boating them is prohibitive because you can't get enough heatsinks. This would give Heavy Lazors the role of providing a lot of punch for only a little weight, but being mostly limited to mechs that can't carry very many weapons to begin with.

Which is why I would expect them to be either under or overpowered at introduction, heavy mediums potentially breaking things as well since it provides so much damage for the tonnage.
