A bad system doesn't become a good one just because it seems that there are no alternatives.

of course any other skill tree system might still need 3 or maybe as much variants as possible to unlock better skills.

Replacing the skill tree system with a more role orientated, chassis based system im all for. (as long as i can use the existing XP to do it, since if PGI makes me re-master all my mechs im going to flip my lid)

Nerfing the values on the existing tree so that there is no practical difference between a mastered mech and a new one i am NOT for, because i spent a f*cking lot of time mastering mechs.

You know what it is?

It's all about that 3-second Jenner that was referenced back in Open Beta. This and the 6-MG Spider are the reasons we can't have nice things.

What a shame.

That Atlas should've allocated more rear armor.

What a rotten way to die.

Looking @ FW is not how you balance things, regardless.

Yep, I'm voting for true dubs for all.

All my mechs feel like they're in the right spot on PTS4... right up until they shut down from a really minimal weapons payload.

An ERPPC and 2 SRM4s and I really can only fire 3 times? Then I have to fire the SRMs solo for like 3 volleys before I can fire the PPC again? Damn son, I mounted 14 DHS and my heat efficiency says 1.71. Something ain't right here.

So lets imagine an elite mech with 20 double heat sinks before PTS4

As a mixed weapon IS heavy/assault player I can't imagine 20 DHS. Seriously, who has the space? What I can imagine is 12-14 of them and in that example the disparity is even worse. So, I agree with you. Major Derp on PGIs part. That or they are only interested in using this as a "we tried it and it sucked so never again."

It's a testbed. The Illumanti have had BattleMech technology for years and are slowly conditioning people toward the operational level of their Mechs to refine their secret pilot recruitment and training program. So when the time comes for world domination, they will have a resource pool of already trained pilots from which to draw. Posted Image

Because they're reworking the skill tree at the same time and wanted to make TTK longer. In essence all mechs, especially alpha, are going to be nerfed across the board. Yet, they indeed went too far with the dissipation nerf, removing engine heat sink advantage, skill tree nerfs and general dissipation nerfs at the same time.

I kind of feel that this is their way of saying "Look Ghost Heat is better". We tried a bunch of things that were tweeted at us and it didn't work. Too bad, so sad. Let's leave it.

That or PGI is buying stock in another mech based game and trying to sink their own...

And you dont think theyre tilting at windmills??
Boogeyman of low ttk already got plenty of "fixes"

1)nerfed dhs
2)hardpoints which reduce number of weapons
3)double armor
4)stat changes
5)ghost heat
6)defensive quirks
7)ed which limits alphas to 30 dmg
8)further nerfs to dhs

7 fixes and ttk is still too low?? you must be insane to think that this will help with anything...and you must be ******** to think that reason for low ttk is tied to mech dmg output...

I'm for changing how heat cap is calculated as an alternative to ED, but I'd rather not even bother if they're going to nerf dissipation and keep ED on top of it.

Before PTS4 I would have laughed at you. While changes in PT1-3 varied wildly there looks to be some sort of coherency there... PTS4 can't possibly be a serious attempt at anything. They are either setting up "capacity reduction" to fail and didn't think we would be so vocal about the obviousness of such a bait and switch OR they are trying to garner support for GH. I mean those of us (myself included) who were pro ED are starting to jump ship... I am not sure exactly what the motive is behind PTS4 but its obvious that it was never a serious attempt at balance.

No, i can honestly believe that this was serious attempt.

Marauder 2c early adopter passed and night gyr release is coming close.
Assuming that ppl cancelled their preorders or didnt preorder to begin with pgi actually felt a sting of their decisions on pts so they tried to win back some good will by listening to feedback, aka 30 heat cap and balancing lurms.
They did so like always either listening to bad ideas or by trying to balance their style and you have the result.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and reiterate that even including player incompetence, mech damage output is the largest factor of low ttk... Because that's kind of obvious. You can blame people being stupid and pinpoint damage all you want, but the reality is if people couldnt put out large alphas/high damage repeatedly there wouldnt be a need for Ghost Heat or Energy Draw... And that has more to do with Weapon Stats and the Heat System, less with hardpoint count/type/layout and even less with players just being dumb.

You can strap nothing but srms to yourself and something like archer 5w will have 64 dmg alpha every 3s on live, yet its hardly big dmg...

And ppl being able to put large alphas like idk, 96 dmg heat neutral kodiak despite 100 tonner having at best 62 armor in ct wasnt a problem in tt...and in neither of previous mechwarriors, no gh no ed...

This got everything to do with pinpoint accuracy and nothing with dmg itself.
