In the name of the Mechwarrior's Syndicate, I hereby ask the Piranha Games to remove this mech from the game.

No? Well, at least people will die in the most good looking ride...

Oh come on! I was at peace with my ranking for which lights to pilot in any given scenario now you give me this option!?

Evil, insidious, tormentors these devs are...a 4th good option to drool over. My uber
-nimble dream mech...and to top it off the flavour text captures an in-game scenario I expect to see happening.

OK, OK, I know. 1st world problems, too many good choices.

On the upside, my mech name for this beast will be easy: some variant of wolf.

The original was one of the worst things ever illustrated.

But this design is metal!

And here I thought they weren't going to include Land / Air mechs. :P

Ok, so it's not quite a Stinger LAM, but 240m jumps are going to be fun.

The spider wasn't a LAM.

Spider
  • SDR-5V - two Medium Lasers. Jumps 240 meters.
  • SDR-5D - The -5D Spider is also geared towards anti-infantry work. This is done by removing one of the Medium Lasers and replacing it with a single arm-mounted Flamer. Jumps 240 meters
  • SDR-5K - The -5K Spider removes one of the Medium Lasers and replaces it with two arm mounted Machine Guns for anti-infantry use. To make room for its Machine Gun ammunition the 'Mech sacrifices 60 meters of its jump capability ( 180 meters of jump).

Quote

Jump capacity set this 'Mech above and beyond modied versions of the Locust and other recon 'Mechs. the jump jet system was designed to make the standard leaps and also to vary the leap trajectory by pivoting the jets in flight. The jump variables made possible by this design capablity play havoc with even the most sophisticated targeting systems.

Excerpt for Technical Readout 3025 page 20

The idea is that all Mechs jumped in a straight line, but, the Spider's advance jump jets allowed it to to curve its jumps.

Quote

The Spider's only real design flaw is that its particular configuration of armor and sensors leave no room for a pilot escape system. In case of emergency the Spider pilot is forced to manually reach the lower hatch to exit the 'Mech.

Excerpt for Technical Readout 3025 page 20

The Idea is that some Mechs have a lower access hatch. Mechs also had rope ladders that would be used in the field.

SDR-5V - two Medium Lasers. Jumps 240 meters. this is the standart design, but 130 kp/h is very fast

Looks amazing! Much better than the TRO, but why would I choose this (besides looks) over a Jenner which has way more weapons besides the minor speed bump.

I was really hoping for something more iconic like the Panther.

It looks to have a lot smaller hit profile ( size), and the -5K will be the only light 'mech so far with ballistic hardpoints

Huge jump range and really fast, but it doesn't have the most diverse variant options, even for a 30 tonner. Would have preferred something like the Hussar, Firestarter, or Panther.

It is a light mech that is built around pure mobility over absolutely everything else, so I suppose that's something.

Nice redesign, I can't believe that this mech is only now just showing up in a mechwarrior game.

Gotta love the classics :P
