I know, but the jump jets on this thing are probably the closest we'll ever get. ;)

SDR-8X - Experimental Prototype that saw service with Devlin Stone's Coalition during the Jihad, the SDR-8X was clad in nearly double the armor of the later 8R and mounted an experimental Inner Sphere technology Partial Wing.

Partial Wing

Description

First designed by Clan Jade Falcon in 3061 and entering production in 3067, the partial wing system offers increased jump capability comparable to the improved jump jet system, but also increases the rate of heat dissipation. Not to be confused with the Land-Air 'Mech concept, the partial wing system is a fixed wing system that allows a 'Mech to glide an additional 60 meters when using normal jump jets. In addition, its large surface area allows a 'Mech to more efficiently radiate excess heat.

Game Notes

Partial Wing adds +2 Jump MP, and –3 heat per turn in Standard atmosphere. The weight of the system is 5% of the 'Mech's weight and rounded up to the nearest 0.5 ton.

F-Yeah. Mice choice. Also a frequent Draconis choice. Jenner or Spider. Liking the Kurita choices available.

The Spider can jump like nobody's business.

People need to remember that scouting is going to pay a much more important role in the game than previously. Just because it has poor firepower isn't that important, it's the most mobile mech in the IS at this time, and it doesn't really get kicked out of the mobility business by anything in the future. If you're providing views to your lance/company mates, NOTHING is going to do that quicker than a Spider. Fighting is SECONDARY. You almost don't want it to fight.

Quad mechs are very difficult to animate properly for 3d terrain. It is extremely unlikely that we will get any quad mechs ever for this reason.

Until I saw this, the lightest mech I wanted to pilot was the Cicada... and I'm still not sure, I'm not too impressed with the lack of weapons.

Looks AMAZING though, probably my favorite concept.

I was really hoping for something more iconic like the Panther.

Would also like to see a Panther make an appearance. As paper tigers go, they pack a punch. Its not a well balanced mech overall, but it excels in its intended role.

Why not? I love the fact that they have been including neglected designs like the Jagermech and Cicada.

oh yeah!

Really liking the redesign. The old version looked silly, but this one doesn't look too bad at all. If you can get the chest glowing that will make it double awesome ;)

There are other more appealing neglected designs than the spider, thats why.

even though I hate it, the Urbanmech for example.

I don't particularly like the Spider, but it adds some really good game balance.

It's crazy fast, crazy jumpy, but very lightly armed and armored.

This means the Commando finally has something it might reliably take down on its own.
So, while I've never been a Spider fan, I think it was a great choice for the game.

Now that they've added a crazy maneuverable mech, they need to add a crazy slow walking shotgun ;). If you get my drift.

Will people feel the sting of my spider, or will I get squashed like a bug? Only my skill will tell.
