I think I'm going to sit this... apparently, month out. Getting tired of KMDD events causing everyone to act loony in matches. Guess I'll finally be able to play Armored Warfare some, and test out Stardew Valley's 1.1 update, I guess.

(Still never leaving the forums though. I'm nothing if I can't post anime gifs somewhere)

I'd rather a nascar than a sit n poke at the deathball.

I saw a dire wolf charge straight into a king crab and brawl it at point blank range. I was confused but this thread made me realize why it happened, and now I understand.

The rewards are nice, but I really, really wish this event had a victory + kmdd as the condition required. When victories aren't a criteria for completing these event challenges, you see a lot more selfish gameplay.

Oh, and still waiting for some events that are based on actual Battletech lore instead of Halloween, St Patrick's Day, October fest or TV shows. I know this is an odd request, but I figure that since we're all Battletech fans playing a Battletech game... well, never mind.

Basically i wont be playing QP much until after mid october.

The only thing this event made me do different than how I would normally play is to take my lights out. And then I realize it's much harder to get a KMDD in a light (at least for me).

Last night I got cursed out for chasing an enemy Crab all the way into and through his team to secure a solo kill and refused to leave him alone the entire match until he was nice and dead and I got away with it because I was an ECM Spider and the few team mates of his that tried to help him couldn't hit me fast enough to save him or prevent me from escaping after the deed was done. That guy called me all kinds of nasty names. Was pretty funny.

I didn't mean literally everyone. Within the context of what we're discussing, it should be obvious that I don't think every single MWO player in the history of the game grew up playing TT or old Mechwarrior games.

It's like I have to write a disclaimer every time I post. Maybe I should put it in my sig.

Perhaps not writing things like "but I figure that since we're all Battletech fans playing a Battletech game" would alleviate the need to have that annoying disclaimer. ;)

Yeah, absolutely. Lights can do a lot of damage in a game, but it's usually a medium amount of damage per target. You won't be the one doing most damage to each target, but you have the speed to participate in the action, whereever it takes place. So you get a lot of assists and you can get a decent score.

The only reliable way to get KMDD is to isolate targets. And that's hard to do against skilled opponents. If you're not fighting a total potato, it's going to take a while to get a solo kill. And in that time, you just have to hope there's no Streakcrow headed towards you.

I get KMDDs in my light 'mechs all the time, usually through playing peekaboo against a specific target for a while and just unloading damage into them. The other avenue from which I get KMDDs in light 'mechs is engaging other light 'mechs in 1v1 fights. I don't want to sound pompous or anything but I must be a pretty good light pilot seeing as I regularly take on lights in 1v1 fights in my own light 'mechs with the usually correct confidence that I will win the altercation if nobody interferes. I mean, I'll literally go after an Arctic Cheetah in a Spider 5D or a Mist Lynx. For some reason a lot of enemy light pilots think that the thing to do while fighting another light 1v1 is go for their torso. No, it's not. Fighting a light 'mech in another light is the same as fighting a light 'mech in any other weight class. The legs are your primary target. I'm sure I'd lose more of my light 1v1 fights if the enemy pilots would target my legs instead of my upper body.

I've seen you in game a few times, but I haven't played against you enough to recall your abilities. I'm sure you're as good as you say you are.

As for the ACH, I don't know. The trouble with the ACH is its monstrous firepower. If the ACH pilot is anywhere near as good as you, he'll do some serious damage to your legs. In this case, he can still take your leg off after you leg him. And unlike some other light mechs, he doesn't have significant structure quirks (quite often, no structure quirks at all), so those arms and side torsos will fall off rather easily. Those 6 SPL ACH's can be scary, but when they lose a side torso, the combination of half firepower and decreased speed makes them almost helpless.

I do usually go for legs, but if I see a damaged arm or sidetorso and healthy legs, I start working the torso instead.

It's fairly rare to get a full 1v1 light mech duel though. Usually, the taste of squirrel blood in the water makes friendly and enemy lights, mediums and heavies flock to the scene as soon as either light mech has been stripped. It's almost magical how often a friendly mech gets the kill shot on a light mech I've spent ages duelling.

Oh I know, I've lost fights to good Arctic Cheetah pilots before. The thing of it is though that if you are in solo queue PUGlandia, which is where I spend most of my time in this game, Arctic Cheetah pilots seem to be generally bad at what they do. Like you can tell these guys have never piloted a light besides that Arctic Cheetah in their life and I will say, when I get in my Arctic Cheetah it is pretty easymode. It is by and large the best light 'mech currently in this game, and that's no secret. But if all you've ever played is the best... then you don't get the skill that comes with mastering the worst, you know? I think that's really the reason I come out on top against most Arctic Cheetah pilots. The only light 'mech piloting experience they've ever had is that Arctic Cheetah while I, on the other hand, have mastered and quite enjoy at least one variant of every light chassis in the game.

Even the Wolfhound? I dunno what the big deal is, you can get a kmdd even after you've died. It took me five matches to secure each day so far. I'm sure some days will be frustrating but so is an FPS game with as few maps as this.

I haven't had a chance to play my Wolfhound since the rescale but before the rescale the Wolfhound had actually become my favorite IS light 'mech to the point where it held a place in my FW drop deck, even though I had mostly stopped playing FW by the time the Wolfhound came out.

Yeah, I definitely hear that. That's why I always put my big boy pants on when I engage Commandos. If anyone's piloting a Commando at Tier 1 or Tier 2, it usually means they know what they're doing.

The Commando 1B is one of my favorites. Got mine set up with 3 Medium Lasers and an SRM6. It doesn't sound like much but it's actually really good. The other variants of the Commando rely on missiles too much for my taste. At 25 tons you just don't have enough weight bring any real splat to the fight without downgrading your engine and let's be honest, downgrading the engine on the fastest 'mech in the game is nigh sacrilege. The 1B with 3 energy and 1 missile is definitely the best Commando out of the bunch in my opinion. That is, of course, if we're not including Hero 'mechs, in which case the Death's Knell might be the best Commando. But I don't like hero 'mechs. Have never owned one. Never will.
