Losing and being in situation, where loss is inevitable - are essential parts of almost every game. I don't even know, why should I explain such obvious things. Players, who accidentally or willingly switches term "losing" with "suiciding" - are just "survival squirrels", who play wrong game. They should play stealth actions or Rogues in MMOs. In what other games you can kill others without any threat of being fought back or killed? Online FPS simply isn't for them. There is no "Rogue style" here, sorry.

Player metrics like kdr have much to answer for....

Some people do not possess the qualities required to be allowed to see and share them.

Don't worry about it. You will have to suicide and get reported a lot of times to start getting PGis attention.

For suiciding, when I was the last man standing on my team, 3 to 11.

The battle was hopelessly lost, and I figured it was better if I just died quickly so everyone could start another battle sooner, instead of trying to drag the battle out.

To the best of my knowledge, the rule against suiciding is about players that suicide at the start of the battle, either overheating, out of bounds or 'zerg rushing' into the enemy team, so I didn't think what I did was against game rules.

So did I do anything wrong? Did I break game rules and deserve the report?

Your battle results mean absolute sh*t in this case.

What matters, only matters, is if you were combat viable. Did you have functioning weapons? Did you still have consumables to use?

*Willfully or repeatedly self-destructing one’s ‘Mech, either by overheating, going out-of-bounds, or committing some other form of suicide or intending to cause abnormally early death.

There are situations that do not fall within the scope of what the shutdown mechanic or evasion tactics are intended for. The use of the shutdown mechanic or avoiding contact with the enemy under the following situations may be classed as an act of non-participation, subject to evaluation and moderation actions by Support services:

Ceasing to meaningfully contribute for the remainder of the match if you still have support equipment, useful modules, or weapons (with any necessary ammo) available. Losing your primary weapon is not an acceptable excuse for hiding and/or shutting down if you still have a secondary weapon, a support-based item such as a TAG, or a consumable module available for use.

Ran away from the enemy team, overheated to die. Sure I could have just thrown my mech at the enemy, but I didn't particularly feel like giving them a free kill.
Either way would have been suicide though.

The only option that wouldn't be considered suicide would have been for me to try and do hit and run sniping, which would have just wasted everyone's time.

Then you broke the non-participation rules as you still were combat viable.

I kinda understand how the OP feels..

Here's what happened to me recently:

Invasion counterattack on Grim Portico, last mech of the drop.. I was playing lightly the whole match, mostly LURM-ing, and trying to bring down omega when I had the chance..

We gather our forces on the frozen lake, waiting for the last push.. We have kills up by 1 or 2, and omega is down to maybe 5%..

Suddenly, my Mad Dog takes heavy ballistic blasts in the back from a teammate in a HBK IIC painted bright green.. he keeps pelting me, and as I protest over VOIP an try to return fire, kills me..

I proceed to report him, and ask others to report him. (I hope some at least, did). He doesn't say a word to me, instead proceeding to play normally like nothing happened..

I'm pretty sure I would have made a difference.. and we ended up loosing the match..

And here's the kicker:

After the match - I GET A TEAMKILL PENALTY!?

I'm like, WTF did just happen here?

I'm quite sure I DID NOT teamkill anyone (that's kinda hard to miss).. and even if I somehow did, dude, use VOIP or chat and let me know you're pissed or something, don't teamkill me in return.. If I accidentally teamkilled you, I would have apologized.. instead, I get a blatant backstab with no idea why, and it potentially costs us the match?!

Talk about a sorry excuse for a player.. Posted Image

@OP: So, why suicide? If you figured you could not win and wanted to die and get the match over, why not 'suicide by enemy team', get some additional damage and maybe another kill out of the deal? You are right that in a 3 v 11 you aren't very likely to be able to win, but just wondering why you'd prefer to kill yourself rather than the alternative?

The basic idea is you should fight, if you are going to lose, fight and lose. Suicide basically denies the other team kills and CBills unnecessarily which is why it is reportable. It is essentially poor sportsmanship. Less egregious at the end of match but still not good.

I suppose it depends on which games you play and your mentality with regard to end strategy, in dota2 for instance killing your own in denial of opposition score xp and gold resource is absolutely a thing.

when you get 'enough' complaints, from one game ... first offence is 2 or 3 day ban .... until then, don't worry about how hard they hate

What are the increments?

How many reports get you the minimum timeout?

As in, any time anyone reports you, you automatically get a timeout? Or, you must get reported twice or some such?

I often get a timeout and have no idea why. Didn't really notice anyone saying anything. It's just there waiting for me after the match.

That'll learn me.

You broke the rules, yeah, but I doubt PGI is gonna do anything about it. I've seen repeat offenders in multiple matches pull the same stunts every time and I report them every time and they are still around and not getting in trouble.

One time instead of shutting down I override fire 3 56dmg solid alphas while at 100% heat into hurt mechs, get 2 kills without dieing to the RNG then manually shut down. I didn't wake up because I was nearly cored by the time I did shut down.. but hey it was better than dieing while shutdown to those 2 numpties I pwnt.

I'd rather do/watch that. They're much more fun, especially given their potential to induce rage. Posted Image

Well there are somewhat contradictory rules when you are a last survivor against several enemies, especially if you have no weapons left.

On the one hand you're not allowed to hide, on the other you're not allowed to do anything suicidal, such as engaging without any chances of winning. What to do?

Just do as you wish for your own fun. You'll be fine.

Just fight to the death next time, it's what people expect.

This is what I do when in your situation and I never complain about anyone on my or the enemy team who does it. They're still trying, and in some cases I've actually seen pilots that do this win a game that otherwise seemed lost. I did it in my Spider just the other night where there were 4 enemy 'mechs left and just my rather badly trashed Spider and I took them all down and secured a victory for my team. Last night I saw an Arctic Cheetah secure a victory for his team by staying out of range of our two remaining Timber Wolves and sniping them to death with CERLLs. Never seen anyone complain about watching that kind of last ditch effort happen in their game as long as the person is active and engaging in combat instead of just running away and hiding.
