My gut feeling says 300 of those people are what MWO was able to keep from steam launch the rest are from the already existing user base that switched over to steam for convenience. Steam launch day was like 4K so out of 3.5k potentially new users MWO could have had we kept 300ish.

Like I said, background patching while you're at work. It's awesome No more getting home, THEN having to patch.
There's other advantages too, but that's the killer feature for me anyways. Never even need to think about patching.

I'm too old-school to run any superfluous apps or programs while gaming... I'm an old Dos guy and old habits die hard.
Sigh. I fondly remember the days of tweaking my extended memory trying to get that additional 1K of memory to get the flipping yellow stippled canopy on my F-16 in Falcon 4.0.
I'm such a grognard.

I just have it on steam so it stays updated even though I haven't played a match since Feb. I did drop in the academy today for some performance testing.I still can't believe my system takes 30 FPS dumps randomly still but I digress. I see they drastically changed the AI battle area to allow missile file and UAV's.

As always only true mechwarriors are interest in this title. Niche playerbase.
For an idea about how many accounts play, I've dropped with one alt.account and I've seen it on 30991° position in the leaderboard.

True, a very niche playerbase. Which saddens me somewhat that we may never get all the shiny things star citizen is getting for example because there's not enough funds going about.

Own like 30+ games via steam, but dont use it for MWO. Havent since the week after MWO went ti steam.
How does polling forumites vice using the leaderboard give you any real idea the number playing the game?

well, 30k in a 4 year old game is not that bad.
But even with a fresh new MW5 that number would not increase that much. Because of niche. Very few are interest in BT or MW outside the ones who already are.
