Since we're getting a free Mechbay with a couple million C-bills soon, I thought I'd buy a new Mech. I'm not entirely sure what to buy though, so I'm asking for some suggestions.

I was thinking of getting a Light to replace my Spidees or an Assault as an alternate for my Awesome. A Medium wouldn't be bad either, but I'm not really looking for a Heavy at the moment.

I'm only looking for two things though;
1. MUST have at least an Energy hardpoint in the head or CT
2. If it's one of those Mechs that you really have to use XLs to get the most out of (Jagers as an example), then it must have at least one Energy hardpoint on both STs

Right now, I'm kinda gravitating towards a WVR-7K as a heavier alternative for my Centurion and as a makeshift lurm boat for CW

Here's my current Mechlist

Also tbh I don't really care what the meta is, I just want a decent Mech that could play real nice

My suggestions:

Light: Firestarter

Medium: Crab

Assault: Stalker (or Banshee, if you want something heavier)

Urbanmechs.

Everyone needs an Urbanmech.
(I do really like the fact that you have a Trebuchet. They really need more love)

Many of your mechs are not leveled. Why not finish them out? You can lurm in a 4J and it has the head laser you requested.

I'd suggest selling your Spider SDR-5V and use your two empty slots to elite/master one of your medium mechs. Unlocking double basics can transform some builds, and even moreso for medium mechs that are expected to bring to the table a good amount of firepower but might not always be able to bring enough heatsinks for sustained combat.

FP energy mech? Black Kniggit or Grasshopper should be good for ya. If you really don't want a Heavy, then Crab. Firestarters used to be decent, but then they got size increase. Posted Image

Crab has 2 center torso and 1 head energy hardpoints and works well with STD engine. For XL requirement there's cicada and blackjack.

Crab is probably sturdiest medium mech in game with STD engine, cicada is laser skirmisher and blackjack is dakka/laser/ppc poker depending on model.

Warhammers, Grasshoppers, Black Knight, Orion does missiles well, Stalker should be in everyone's mechbay, & Banshee is a strong pick (especially the 3M, despite the nerf)

Firestarter if you wanna go light, Griffin for missile medium & it's hero is a good laser boat.

But tbh, I'd suggest mastering the mechs you've got currently.

Even if you can get past how ugly the Wolverine is, it's not really a great mech.

Assault mechs with energy hardpoints in the head or CT:
Zeus, Stalker, Banshee, Atlas.
Considering that the assault mech you already have (Awesome) is a laser / missile carrier, I would get something with ballistic hardpoints. Either Zeus, Banshee or Atlas. Banshee is probably the most powerful choice, if you can get past how ugly it is.

Light mech:
Get the Firestarter. Yeah, it's an oversized 35 tonner. But it has lots of jump jets, lots of hardpoints, good distribution of hardpoints, fairly good hitboxes, and you can run a couple of fun builds, like the dual hyper-charged AMS carrier, the laser+MG brawler, or even.... a Firestarter with an STD engine! Point and laugh at your discouraged enemies, as you still have 5 lasers after they took out one of your side torsos! Just a fleshwound.

Or just get the standard XL280 SPL carrier and smash faces.

Everything the Wolverine does, the Griffin or Shadowhawk do better. And they're both prettier.

Maybe if the Wolverine looked like the original concept art, I would try to get it work.

I mean, apart from its animations and stance being kind of crap, it does look like the Concept art.

I mean, the difference between the concept and the model is much smaller than on something like the Quickdraw (which is really horrible transition) and the Enforcer's Head (just the head, really).

Pretty much the only issue i have with the Wolverine is that the Standard model does not have the Round chin-turret, which the (P) got.

Banshee.

BTW, which mechs have head energy that takes larger than a medium laser?

Only Clan mechs. You only have 1 crit slot, and the LL needs 2.

Those are both bad, especially the squat stance. But I also don't like the sloping angle of the cockpit glass, which I feel is exaggerated compared to the concept art. The cockpit looked cooler and bigger in the concept art, and the cockpit laser looked smaller relative to the cockpit.

But a taller, more upright stance would have made a big difference too.

That's incorrect. There is no difference between IS and Clan standard cockpit - both have one empty slot.

He was asking if there are any mechs that can equip anything bigger than a medium laser.

The answer is "Only Clan mechs", because the Clan ERLL only takes one slot.

Well, i mean, TECHNICALLY, IS mechs can have something larger than a medium laser too.
In the form of a medium pulse laser.

That's right. I got confused by that mention about LL needing two slots, since the OP uses mostly IS Mechs.

Tbh I'd rather get an IS, but if I can't find any, I'd go for a Clanner
