When Battletech Comes Out Next Year How Many Will Play Both Those Games Or Choose One Or The Other?

But, I already knew what I'm reading in replies. When it comes out, all the BT fans will leave unless they get their content that requires much more programming time than what me and my friends want in a MechWarrior game....
...decent hit registration and good games.
So much for listening to the "needs to be TRO!!!" crowd, PGI.

Doesn't this game have headshot crits too? I can't reliably hit head hitboxes to confirm or deny it myself, but doesn't double gauss sometimes crit and instagib stuff?

Will I play that...who knows? What I would like is for this game to at least try to give me a reason, ANY REASON, other than -yet another mech pack- to play this game and maybe even a reason to go back to my whale-like ways.
Sigh.

As for my optimism, I guess that it has something to do with the fact that Jordan Weisman and Mitch Gitelman can show a good "service record" and that they have delivered what they promised (in their previous HBS titles).
And of course, they made well-liked MechWarrior and MechCommander series before that.

Current game is awful because of [current developer], but unreleased game will be so much better because of its [not being run by current developer].
It's more like that.

Games like Battletech and MechCommander are nice in terms of experiencing the BT universe, but it doesn't offer the kind of satisfaction you get from personally piloting a mech or destroying a mech.

Kind of harsh, innit?
But made me chuckle.

Either the term 'FPS' has been greatly watered down since I last checked, or people really are expecting Star Citizen to be the cross genre spanning master piece that Yathzee once joked Duke Nukem was.

They don't really need to make Star Citizen a cross genre spaning master piece to draw me away from MWO. It just needs to have some decent FPS elements to let me scratch that itch now and again when I'm tired of flying space ships.

I guess I will play both, but I expect HBS BattleTech to become my primary game, while MWO will probably be sidelined. MWO offers nothing but repetetive deathmatch, while HBS is going to offer much more:
- Combined Arms - tanks, hovertanks, helicopters maybe, etc. - all those things mising in MWO
- Expanded Mission Objectives - Attack, Defend, Capture, Escort, etc. - the majority of MWO games is "Kill the entire enemy team" with occassional variation "Kill the entire enemy team and then stand in the square"
- Managing the finances and logistics of my mercenary outfit - from the modifications and loadout of your 'Mechs, to the salaries and skill growth of your MechWarriors - the only thing I am managing in MWO is "Do I have enough C-Bills to buy DHS and ES upgrades?"
- Open-Ended Campaign with Procedurally-generated Contracts included
- Battlefield Salvage - missing in MWO
- Character Origin - the only "character" I see in MWO is headless body in 'Mech cockpit
- George "Duncan Fisher" Ledoux - "Whoa! That kid was on fire down there. Of course, now he's literally on fire."
- Duane Loose - painter who illustrated first BattleTech 'Mech and vehicle TROs and practically defined the visual aspect of the game. Now he is cooperating on HBS BattleTech.
- Argo Dropship - finally a home base that is more than a few Mechlab screens
- Hiring 'Mech Aces such as Grayson Carlyle, Natasha Kerensky or Morgan Kell
- Solaris 7 with Tournaments, Leagues and Leaderboards, or just with casual PvP games
- Meeting and Fighting Various Elite House and Mercenary Units such as Sword of Light, Eridani Light Horse or Black Widow Company
- Physical Attacks - Jordan Weisman's favorite 'Mech is the Hatchetman and he said that "You can't have a proper BattleTech game without physical attacks."
I spend $25.00 to $50.00 to back Battletech and get access to ALL of the above. I spend the same amount in this game and get what, maybe one, to three mechs, a silly badge and a few useless desk swag for a MVP game that continually over promises and under delivers. Its amusing that if you think about it their "super pre alpha" is essentially where this game is currently at now.

I have always had the impression that Russ Bullock has not quite grasped the concept of "microtransactions". Selling 'Mechs for 20, 30 or 40 bucks is "macrotransaction" in my book.
