Match Penalties Too Harsh

I also try to avoid team damage, waiting for a clear shot or pulling my lasers up when someone walks into the beam.
The worst is when an enemy light is circling someone and the rest of that persons team murders their own dude trying to kill the light.

To get to 20 minutes, he has to be doing a LOT of tram damage in every single match.
That's extreme, and at the point where if people start reporting him, he's gonna get some quality time off.
Definitely at the point of griefing IMHO.

One of these instances where I logged back into the match, we were losing bad, I managed to turn the tide, killed 5 enemies and got a disconnect penalty as a bonus. Lovely.

... but to do that you have to be killing your team mates or doing 60 ot 70 damage to your own team every match. In a typical game, I might do anywhere from zero to twenty points to my own team if someone happens to step in front of me or they get caught by splatter. I have only once received the penalty when a damaged team mate walked into my line of fire just as I fired and died (I felt bad but there wasn't anything I could do since the shot was on the way).
If you are doing so much damage to your own team to constantly incur this penalty then I think you need to look at not firing though your team mates ... unless you are color blind and have trouble distinguishing the red doritos that identify enemy mechs? Or you are constantly using advanced zoom and not paying attention to anyone around you?
Or ... as others have mentioned ... do you see maps you don't like to play and intentionally disconnect? That will add up to login time penalties far faster than team damage.

I mean, sure it would make sense if people were separated by skill or something, but with since they added FW's matchmaker to QP, it just makes it harder for new people to figure out what they're doing.
Just get rid of FF altogether.
They did NOT add the non-existant FW matchmaker to QP ... unless you have a citation on that?
As far as I know, the FW matchmaker just throws whoever is available at whoever else is available with no balance for team vs. solo or pilot skill. (Which is part of why FW isn't very popular ...)
... though I am guessing sarcasm ... but sarcasm doesn't work on the forums and folks are likely to take your statement on the matchmaker as fact

Or is teamfire "ok" when engaged with enemy?

I find if you kill a teammate with very little damage done (such as they're almost dead and a errant SRM/laser tick nicks them) you just get a very small penalty.

I actually wondering if I should bother Russ about such a thread
A tier 1 player that thinks the team damage penalty is too harsh
Maybe Russ would start thinking of coming up with a better formula for determining skill
Sigh
If only someone would listen

I've only ever gotten 1 penalty and that was from my internet going out due to a storm.
I damaged teammates up 30 points(not on purpose) sometimes when they don't look out where they're going and they run into my LOS while I'm firing and I've never gotten a penalty for it.

I think this was changed. When they first started this I was on steam, which was unstable on my computer, and kept dropping sync. At first I'd just go to the home screen and take my 2 minute penalty. Then I learned you can boot right back in....did that many times and I never got a penalty once I rejoined.
After about 4 weeks of this I downloaded the MWO (non steam) and haven't had but maybe one or two since. Booted right back into the mech that was already in the match- no penalties.

For me the steam version has been a lot more stable than the standalone that I used since open beta. Also the patches come 10-50x faster than on the standalone.
And the issue hasn't changed, unless they have removed the disconnect penalty or given few more minutes for rejoining, havent read the notes for a long time.

You're repeatedly doing something bad, getting penalized for it, and whining about the penalty. Your teammates, meanwhile, are angry about you shooting them in the back.
Stop shooting your teammates.
Sweet Christ, why does this need to be explained to anybody? Smartest game in eSpurts.

If your going to complain about the mechanic's of the game, because of stupid thing you do, then you need to pick a day like the day they patch E.D into the game, when the hate for P.G.I will be like a chapter from Revelations.
Never, ever, do it, the week after a popular mech is launched and a despised map is made a lot better.
It's what's called a slow news day, when kittens make the national headlines.

note how nobody else in this thread has this problem. It's just you.
These penalties protect us from YOU.
Well the only protection would be playing in T4. Unnecessary to say what i think of a T1 guy telling in the forums he trigger hard on the match penalty system. Just another nail in the tier system.

Or you could, y'know use your words and let your team know what you're doing, or ask them to make room for you... the possibilities are truly endless. Communication is OP.
If you are getting penalized on a regular basis, then you are bad and you should feel bad. If you consistently do more than a handful of points of FF, then you are doing something wrong and need to fix it. Your position is bad, or your aim is bad, or you are just inconsiderate and careless... and all you need to do to stop getting FF penalties is either stop driving like a baked potato, else take your booger hook off the bang switch when the dorito ain't red. This is not rocket science. I'm bloody terrible in bigs, and I've never gotten put on time-out even once.
PGI needs to dial up the penalty duration, not turn it down, and the trigger threshold is fine where it is.
