Probably about as long as it would take for people to stop making salty tunnel vision induced posts.

Honestly, look at Microsoft... They own the rights to the MechWarrior IP, but licensed PGI to make something with it, as they didn't feel the IP was worth their funds and time to do anything for since MW4 Mercs, not the MekTek idiots people got their hands on it and butchered it. Personally as much as I'd love to say that someone else would snap it up, I very much doubt it, as the IP is seen as some what tainted, due in large part to a very vocal minority that call for developer blood ever time a minor changes happens.

But before Squadron 42 comes out? 2017

SC will be much like MWO, never really ending...but hopefully more content.
It's already at the same level, with FPS and planetary landing coming within a few months.

I started playing through Wing Commander again this week. I'm tired of waiting. And I'm having fun!

I think much quicker than a decade due to a solid nostalgic fanbase that would come back. There are people I gamed with in early 2013 that just dropped this game like a hot potato early on and never came back

Would love the LL guys to get a hold of it

only if they have learned how to build a mechlab by now.

It would have been in the next patch, before the stop

Dev's had access to a UI-less version (one showcased a DireStar, and I think Quad Gauss, Whale)

Having read the response from the heads of MW:LL, There was no C&D.

I have a feeling that their deal with MS was that if/when someone bought the license to make a for profit product, their license would end. So when PGI got their license, MW:LL had to stop.

Even if there was no physical C&D (e-mail or otherwise), it's implied that this would've been the route taken (you warn people in advance before taking legal action).

Russ talked in physical person to Sean and Dan at GDC about them stopping MWLL patches. They knew each other due to both being Crytek employees at the time, We all knew internally what was going to happen. I think all communication with MWLL staff was with Russ personally, but anyway shortly after that the emails started, despite any reassurances about Russ's "concerns about player base fragmentation" (we supplied user data so they could see the few hundred of players MWLL had) his concerns of feature scope of MWLL lead to ultimatums being set and MWLL basically complied with those demands.

These included "no mechlab". "hunchback" and stopping feature addition. So even if we could have kept developing Russ would have shut the thing down. The only real concession we managed to negotiate was he let us get out a patch with a ton of stuff that was in mid development and that there was no legal shut down so the game DL is still up and running and people can still keep playing MWLL without being marred by the effects a C&D would have caused. Sadly the last patch was affected by the crunchtime so there are some bugs and some rough parts. Loads didn't make in.. *cough* new battlearmor system, which was very close to making it. Just ended up on cutting room floor.

Edit: note the obvious that MWLL still uses the Mechwarrior IP. If they were doing that illegally or against the license with MS you wouldn't find the DL for the game on the MWLL website> like what happened with Mekteks downloads.

I see the what obvious intentions are (not that I know of anything involved with it) based on the descriptions. It's the price you pay... or rather the tradeoffs you did for doing this, and it is what it is I guess.

Technically a project left unfinished is probably the best thing for PGI (attempting to mod it further would obviously be problematic) and honestly.. I think whatever paranoia PGI had on their end could actually be legitimized had a mechlab ever been completed (why that wasn't a goal in the first place could've made a difference somewhere down the line IMO).

Probably at some point, I really should give MWLL a try.. if only to see something more than "minimally viable".

It is funny that in the end, PGI took years to "reinvent" the mechlab.

It's pretty good if this was still 2009-2010 and all things considered. There are tons of minmally viable things in MWLL though, nature of the beast. MWLL would have really benefitted with only 6months more work, which is the sad thing. It couldn't really carry on with the current tech base and design strategy tbh, it was based on tech and hardware circa 2007. So yeah GPUs with less than 1GB ram was a big bottleneck. but even 6months would have been much better for the project imo.

Sure, but considering that people are unpaid for this says more (or less) about PGI with being paid and still underdelivering.

That irony will continue to hold true as long as MWO exists with current management.

I think Cd Projekt Red would be interested to. They would do a good job to. I think PGI can do it to though.

He said he would love to make a BT game. Seems like HBS should be more concerned, because he specifically said he did not want to make a mechwarrior game.

He said not Turn based game, HBS is making a turn based game.He means fully immersed SIM with all components of BT.We can presume infantry, dropships, aerospace fighters so on and so on not just mechs.
